I own a GMTII and am considering adding a Deep Sea to my collection.
Are they too similar to consider owning both?
The dials look very similar but the case and size of DS is significantly larger which is not a problem as I already own a 44 mm Panerai.

I'd have to ask myself how much time do I actually spend in deep sea. Answer....Zero. I do travel through various time zones once in a while.

Um, I have GMT II, DeepSea, and 44mm Panerai. All are unique to me.

From far away, to the untrained eye, they look the same. To you, they will be two very different watches and you will be able to admire and love both of them for those differences (should you get the DSSD of course, I prefer the Submariner but I'm not a man who likes very large watches).

Thanks for all of the comments. I have tried on the DSSD a few times at different AD's and compared it to a Pam 321 that I own. It's not really any bigger as both are 44 mm and I have to assume that once fitted on my wrist it will sit at least as well as the Pam. I am leaning towards going for it but will spend a little more time test driving it before I make a final decision. I have acquired a taste for the larger time pieces as they are certainly easier for me to read the dial and the 40 mm GMT actually looks a little small on my 6.5 wrist now.

Depends also on what you are wearing it with. The deep sea is tough to fit under a dress shirt unless you wear french cuffs often.

The Deepsea will be a nice addition to your collection. Im also currently in the market for a DSSD. The size does not bother me either as I also wear Panerai watches. You will notice the extra weight but im sure only temporarily. DSSD is definitely different than your GMT which is also a great piece. Believe me, I've been studying all of them closely. In my opinion, the numerals around the bezel set them apart. Both the GMT and Explorer II are similar as they have the numberings to show the 24 hrs (not to mention dual time) The sea dweller, submariner and deepsea are similar as they show the minutes in 10 min increment. I also love the GMT and will probably add that to my collection (I'm surprised I haven't already since I'm also an aviation geek and the GMT is closely associated with PAN AM and the Concorde) I do however have the Explorer II (polar). I'm getting the Deepsea as it represents Rolex's current achievement!

All are unique to me. __________________ So it's not the steam that causes the failure, but it's water that you notice in the watch after a shower that could lead you to believe the steam damaged the seal, but it's just the unfortunate result of an unserviced mechanical beast.
