New 16800
Picked this baby up today as a present for my dad because he's stopped smoking. I told him he has to give it to me if he starts up again. I noticed a small problem when setting it though - The crown seems to be missing a function. It pops to the wind position and winds as it should but when pulled out to the next position it still winds...Shouldn't this be the quickset date?...The final position sets the minute hand. This isn't really a problem as the date can be found (eventually) by advancing the minute hand. Is this a big problem considering the watch is nearly 30 years old? It keeps excellent time and my dad is very happy with it. Thank you all and welcome back TRF and TRF Team!

Not sure if it is a quick set, but that is a great incentive to stop smoking. However, it would not work on me since I have a Sub LV-C already on my wrist.
Big props to your dad for quitting. Boy have I tried. It is hard when you enjoy smoking so much. |

Tell me about it buddy. Yah he's more of a vintage chap. I know he's been after a Sub for a loooong time, old skool one just like this.

Thanks. I was told in the shop that the serial number indicates it is from 1984 also.

The 16800 was the first rolex submariner to have a true quickset date function.

Phew! I've just found out how it works, thanks to Newbieone! You flick through the dates by winding backwards at the second position! It's amazing I was messing with it for ages and didn't find it Cheers Newbieone!

Couple of extra pics. Cleaned it up a bit and filled in a few of the marks on the bezel with a permanent ballpoint pen for writing on glass and shiny surfaces. Managed to get the black crap out of the cracked bezel pearl too.
