Pre-owned Milgauss
noob here
I have run across a milgauss for sale. This line intrigues me. I work with magnetic amplification units that we have engineered to assist in water treatment. The Faraday Cage is pretty interesting. Most of everything I do involves the implementation of Faraday's Law and the Faraday's generator. So I have been all over the web today and I have one problem. I cannot find the dial anywhere. The prospect is a white dial but it only has orange markers at the 3,6, and 9. The serial number begins with "F" and is found on the inside of the bezel below the 6. I have not taken off the bracelet to check for info between the lugs yet, nor have I had the back off. I don't mind paying for an appraisal and I will probably get around to it before i purchase anyway but I am hoping that the knowledge here can either verify that dial variations on pieces stamped from this era are in fact a possibility or that this is possibly a very good counterfeit. I love the way this dial looks and I love that it is quite possibly somewhat unique but I don't want to get taken either. To reiterate, the dial markers are exactly like that on the black face "GV" with larger and orange luminescent markers at 3,6, and 9. The only difference is there is definitely no green saphire and the dial is white, a dull white at that. Any help or advice that will help me with my first Rolex purchase is appreciated. |

thanks roach. I take it from your short statement that what I have found is junk then. It passes every other test I have been able to research.
It is definitely the white one but again it does not have all the markers in orange, just the 3,6, and 9. Oh well. Thanks for saving me some cash. I will keep hunting. |

Just to add one more thing, this piece looks exactly like the one you provided the pic of but the serial is series "F".
Is anyone here able to say with all certainty that an '03-04 Milgauss never had a variation of the color scheme as far as the markers go? This is a private seller and he has an extensive collection including 4 other Rolex, Omega, and several Breitling. All with documentation, boxes, etc. This guy also has the means and ego (no disrespect intended) to not waste money on counterfeit. My opinion is that he got taken. If you guys are fairly certain that this color variation on the dial (markers only plus lighter shade of orange) is a dead giveaway then hopefully this info can be used to help others. I have the piece in my possession now, hence the pics below (sorry for such poor quality) and was told to have it checked out by whomever. If I can rule out the possibility of authentication based on the color variations you see below however I won't wast the time of a dealer or any of my cash, especially this time of year. Again, many thanks for checking this out. ETA: The other thing that confuses me is that I cannot find another pic of this thing anywhere. Even when searching for for reproductions or whatever where I see luxury names for a few hundred bucks I cannot find this dial. Last edited by hargate; 19 December 2011 at 06:19 AM.. Reason: to add |

I have never seen an F serial Milgauss. Not even a D. Earliest I have seen were Z's.

Thanks for being so blunt. I came here for information and that is what I got. |

F series would correspond with 2003-4, I think. The Milgauss was re-introduced around 2007, so that definitely doesn't sound right.

On the white dialed Milgauss pieces I've seen, ALL of the index markers have been orange.

Thanks Rich and Tridor.
The only one's I have seen are pics on the web and the markers on the dial have all been orange as well. I still cannot find one that looks like this. As far as the re-introduction dates, the serial number, and all the historical charts talking about the progression of the serial system up to and now including randomly placed letters throughout the serial number I have read that at best that is an educated guess as Rolex (intelligently I might add) does not confirm actual production and release correspondence. I have just found that in a couple "disclaimers" on various sites that display a historical evolution of the serial numbering process. Not sure if that is disinformation or not, I'm pretty much off this one based on noone here or anywhere else on the web can confirm that they have seen this piece before. Milgauss will be my first Rolex. Maybe I will get the bug, but my line of work and fascination with magnetics kind of hems me into this model. Maybe I will post here when I find the right one. I definitely will post here if I have the slightest doubt down the road. There is no better source for good information than from the fanatics IMHO. And that's a compliment to you guy's and the site. |
