Bad sinuses ? - try a neti

been suffering for some time with really bad sinuses & got a bit reliant with the over the counter sprays to bring relief & a good nights sleep...so having seen the Dr. who gave me a course of steroids a word he'd mentioned stuck in my head (Rhinitis), did a quick search of Google & found these things called Neti Nosebuddy's...........there's vid's on youtube etc & it looks strange when using it but wow, does it work

my nose hasn't felt this clear in years & all achieved without any prescribed or over the counter drugs, great for colds, hayfever too

My niece swears by that, but I've yet to try it. Where did you buy it?

I have used one occasionally..good results with it even though it takes a bit of getting used to.

It really works - and it's totally safe and drug free. My only problem is I can't get into the habit of using it every day.

Hopefully you're seeing an ENT. If you have polyps, that needs to be addressed. Any relief from the Neti will only be temporary.

I do something similar with saline and an irrigation bulb syringe.

I am allergic to ragweed and a couple of other things. The ragweed season where I live is 10 months long so my neti gets used almost every day.

I take a gallon of distilled water and add the appropriate amount of the pharmaceutical salt to it and keep it in the fridge. When I use it (every morning and last thing at night - more during bad spells) I just pour 1.5 cups into a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup and microwave it for 60 seconds. Pour half into the neti and go on one side then repeat with the other side.

The neti does help quite a bit but is not a miracle device.

I got mine at Amazon.com before I discovered they were available locally.

bought mine from Amazon UK (link above)....checked out a few but reviews pointed towards the one above, better shape & increased water pressure is supposed to do a better job......it feels really alien to begin with but the results are so beneficial

I suffer terribly from sinus pain, I have heard good thing but have yet to give it a try.

Been using something similar to this for years. Since I'm prone to nosebleeds, allergies and sinus infections it just makes sense. While it can't make symptoms disappear immediately I really believe it helps.

Nasal rinsing was something my ENT recommended.

We recommend sinus rinse kits to our patients. What people need to be careful about, is using over the counter nasal decongestant sparys. They decongest, but have a side effect of actually creating nasal swelling when used for more than 3 or 4 days and they can become addictive.

The sinus rinse kits are easier to use than a neti pot, but both achieve the same result. Make sure you use DISTILLED water. There have been a cases of infection is the US when people use tap water. The Neil Med kits come with additive packets to mix with the distilled water.

If you have a lot of problems with sinus, the best thing to do is see an ENT and usually we will order a CT of the Sinuses and some allergy testing. That will help you know the underlying cause of your problems and we can recommend other solutions.

You can get the Neil Med version of the Neti Pot in any pharmacy. Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, many local home town pharmacies and on Amazon.

It’s safe if you follow the instructions and use distilled/boiled/saline water.

Essentially you just want anything that’s going up your nose to be sterile, which is why a recommend hard liquor.

I've had terrible Sinus pain this winter... (well, as MUCH of a winter as we get here in San Diego, but it has been a lot colder and rainier then usual). But my sinuses are pretty bad. Let's see, I was a professional diver for many years then a Navy Pilot for 12... Yep, that can do it to them! I really should try one of these things... I don't know though... I just don't think I can get myself to actually... you know... do it. I cringe just thinking about it!....

I am an ENT Nurse Practitioner and we do recommend that you use distilled water. They have had some weird cases of infection with tap water.

We do something called a proetz or sinus wash on our patients, and we use saline that has additives made up by a pharmacy.
