yelp review of tourneau

hello,
was reading a yelp review of tourneau

it stated "hammering sound" when adjusting the pin on the watchlinks.

have u ever heard this sound from another AD????????

i guess it sounds like this.


it also stated the pin was curved from all of the hammering. i guess totally a bad experience right?

They're mostly idiots at Tourneau. I was told by a Tourneau sales associate in the Copley Boston one that the grinding sound I heard when winding the crown on a Daytona was normal, and that is how it should sound because the movement is still so new. He even took it in the back and had his "watchmaker" confirm that is fine. The same "watchmaker" that would later confirm a gear had broken.

That is a moronic thing to ever say, but this was also on an M serial from presumably 2007!!

the Tourneau here in the burbs of Detroit is in bad shape -
Rolex, Omega, JLC, and IWC pulled out of there.
Rolex can be found in the same mall by a very respected jeweler who carries Panerai, IWC, and JLC also. And Omega opened their own store right across the hall from Tourneau.

But I would say they are now have the biggest inventory of Tag Heuer I have ever seen.

I noticed that as well for the Natick Mall one in the western Boston burbs - they pulled all their nice stuff, including pre-owned if they weren't an AD for the brand. Funny you mention that in Detroit re Omega - they did the exact same thing in the one here too!

We've got one here in a mall in San Diego... I've been in there a few times and really turned-off. The sales people didn't seem to know what they were talking about and the used Rollies were WAY over-priced. I guess it's up to the buyer and if you're comfortable with the then more power to you, but I don't see myself ever being a customer of the "Big T."

Well, at least you're in San Diego enjoying the CA life!

I've been to Tourneaus in Las Vegas, Atlanta, and both locations in NYC. I agree with your observations and have had similar lackluster experiences at their stores. No wonder Nick Hayek JR singled them out for a thumping recently. Having been to many watch stores in europe, there are many smaller locations (even big ones) where the service is low key, atttentive, personal, and knowledgeable. Drinks and snacks are served, even if there is no sale. I remember a visit to the Omega boutique on the Champs Elysee in Paris. I was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.... Within minutes, the sales staff were noticing my Snoopy Speedmaster and a small crowd came to see it as most had never seen an actual one before....I was whisked away to the downstairs salon and served refreshments and snacks. A quick shopping visit turned into a laid back conversation over drinks with several staff members. I had to actually excuse myself after a almost an hour as I had a meeting to attend.

By contrast, my wife was so uncomfortable with the high pressure salesman in the Atlanta location she walked out! I was right behind her and pretty much vowed to never bother with them again.

Still, Tourneau is the Goliath of Swiss sales watcherie in the USA. And to someone who doesn't care about the kind of "intangibles" I mentioned they are a legit place to shop.

As one member here said on one of the millions of Tourneau posts: when he owned a car dealership, he didn't hire guys to sell cars that LIKED cars, he hired guys that LIKED MONEY.

Tourneau? They're in the sales business, not the watch business.
