Icon5 Question for Rum and cigar fans

A very good friend of mine just gave me a bottle of Mount Gay Extra Old rum; his pride and joy as he is an avid rum drinker.

My personal preferences go (in no particular order) from wine, through scotch, tequila, beer and port; I only have rum (Havana Añejo) on mojitos!

I would not like to have a bad 'first impression' on this gift; so what are your suggestion on how to enjoy? Cigar fans: would you pair this with a smooth or complex cigar?

Thank you in advance for your comments and expertise!!!!!

I almost never have Rum with my cigars, Bourbon, Brandy, Scotch, Port are my choices but I must say once in the Caribbean about 10 years ago I was offered a Cohiba presidential and some Havana Club. Might have been the best smoke/sip combo I've ever had!

Here's hoping your experience is equally as satisfying!!!

Thank you Marc. Did you drink Havana straight? Mixed with something else?

It was straight, might be why I liked it so much, wasn't too sweet and blended nicely with the smoke.

Just to add my wife and I had our honeymoon in Nassau, we go back, or try to, once a year and the single best cigar I've ever had was hand rolled for me by the in-house cigar roller here graycliff it was awesome and the meal wasn't bad either, started with a stone-crab claw as big as my head and ended with a passion-fruit crepe suzett
