Watch back from service with chipped hour plot
My 14060 was running about 15s slow so I checked it in to a local service \ repair shop that has a good reputation and I understand is Rolex trained and ex-RSC.
I got it back a couple of weeks ago and seeing as the GMT has been getting almost all the wrist time hadn't looked to hard at it, but on Friday I noticed there was a chip on one of the hour plots that went through to the dial. It would be fair to say I'm less than happy and will be taking the matter up with the gentleman in question tomorrow. My question is what do you think is fair for me to ask? Money back for the service (~$450)? a new dial? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter. Thanks Rob |

New dial at their cost...no questions I agree.
Hopefully it's not an odd/rare bird? 14060 that is... |

If it happened to my 14060 I'd ask for the cost of the service to be reimbursed. I wouldn't want my trit dial to be replaced.

First an apology, then a new dial at their cost, and a thorough inspection afterwards to ensure that you won't have to go back there again.

New dial at their cost -- I wouldn't be able to live with the flaw.

I agree it should be replaced my concern is the length of time that has passed since you got it back.

I think they need to make it right by replacing the dial with the proper replacement and reimburse you for the service and then send it to RSC to have them service it and check it over!!!

I'd just ask for a refund and then send it to RSC.
I wouldn't want them to touch it again, frankly.

If the watchmaker has any sort of reputation, he/she should take care of you. Sorry to hear about your situation though. It's an unfortunate sort of thing to deal with...and uncomfortable too, I'm sure.

Really feel for you as this would drive me nuts. I would expect an apology (annoys me that he returned it to you without acknowledging the damage in the first place), and a refund. If he is unwilling to refund fully, I would still try to get some sort of recompense (don't know how much because I personally don't know how much it would cost to rectify). Lastly, I would take it to a RSC to get fixed if you couldn't live with the defect. Like others have already said, I wouldn't want the same person tinkering with my watch any further. Best of luck in getting this sorted.
I've also sent you a PM. |
