Hello from So. California
I finally landed on this forum and it looks great....thrilled I got here!
I have a couple initial questions which I didn't see covered in my search of the threads. I have a 2 questions about service. I have a 1985ish Oyster Perpetual Day/Date presidents model, and my wife has (don't know what the name is specifically) but its an '87ish stainless and gold, no date, Oyster perpetual. Both are up for service and hers is into Rolex right now, mine will be sent soon UNLESS you have another suggestion? The second question is regarding a 1940s, maybe early 50's ladies rolex. I have been told that Rolex won't service anything that old.....so what do I do? I think it only needs a standard service but who knows. Any suggestions?? In any case, I'm enjoying the forum and looking forward to further participation. Thanks Ted |

Welcome to TRF, Ted!
I gather your Rolex has not been serviced for a LONG time (more than 5 years ago), so I would definately get it serviced now. It may be keeping good time, but still it needs cleaning and have the oils exchanged. The gaskets and seals need to be exchanged to. Yes, Rolex would not service your 40ies Rolex But there are some skilled watch makers that can service it. Nick Hacko (a member here, but I don't know if he is still active here for some reasons that I won't discuss here) would be one of them, since he has "rescued" some Rolex watches that were deemed "unserviceable" by Rolex RSC (Rolex Service Centre(-s). Anyway, I believe my fellow members would agree when I say that I would like some pics of the watches, especially that OLD Rolex! So here is MY suggestion to how to post pics here (in case you shouldn't know): 1) Go to www.photobucket.com and create an account (it's FREE!) 2) Upload the pic to photobucket from your PC 3) When it's uploaded, copy the IMG code (BOTTOM bar under the photo in photobucket - there are four bars, but you'd wanna use the LAST bar - see my arrow on the Print Screen underneath). You copy the IMG code by simply clicking on the bar: 4) You then note that photobucket tells you "copied". 5) Then go to rolexforums and start your post. 6) In your post, press the "Add picture" button and a prompt pops up with http://. Delete that http:// and press CTRL + V (now that address of the photo - the "IMG tag" - is inserted in the prompt you got. 7) Then DELETE the last and first [IMG] to get rid of "IMG" standing before and after your photo when you post it. (not important, but just looks better). Or you can skip # 6 & 7 and just rightclick in your post and choose "paste"...........BINGO your photo will be there as soon as you press Submit reply. IMPORTANT: DO NOT DELETE THE PICTURE FROM PHOTOBUCKET (OR ANY SERVER YOU USE) SINCE DELETING IT THERE WOULD ALSO DELETE IT HERE ON TRF! (RED CROSS INSTEAD OF PIC). That's it!

Hi Ted, welcome aboard!
Have you tried calling the Beverly Hills RSC to see whether they can still service the 40's-50's model? Rolex Watch Service Center: New York, NY: 212-758-7700 Dallas, TX: 214-871-0500 Beverly Hills, CA: 310-271-6200 Rolex USA Inc: 1-800-367-6539 Vintage service seems to vary by region/country. I can still have this 1960ish fully serviced at the Toronto RSC.

OK....ask and you shall receive. Took a couple of quick pics. Here are two...the third is out for service.
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...lbum/-0397.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...lbum/-0394.jpg You are correct, the mens (my) watch hasn't been in for service in about 8 or 9 years. As you can see, it needs the crystal replaced. I guess this will go out this weekend for service. I actually haven't called Rolex on the 40's/50's vintage one. Thanks for the phone #'s....I'll start there. The problem is I can't describe what I have(no model # etc....just the picture) Thanks again, Ted |

Welcome...
As Al suggested....give 'em a call.. If not, check around for an established watchmaker..Preferrably one with a Rolex account.. These are not complicated movements and I'm sure one can take good care of your treasure.. |

Try D's Time Service on 6th Ave in down town San Diego (Jeweler's Exchange building). He's an independant service center for jewelry stores, and he charges wholesale prices. Sometimes he'll make an exception and work for the public... Owner's name is Tom. He's AWCI certified, and Rolex trained. Very nice guy!
