Is this Datejust a good deal?

Hello everyone.

New user but long time lurker here.

I'm also new to the world of Rolex. "Best" I've owned so far have been an Omega and a Breitling.

I was at a Rolex AD the other day and they had a Datejust (Gold & Champagne dial) from the 70's on sale for $1295.

They're willing to go down to $1100, but there's a catch:

No box or papers. Also, the watch is on an aftermarket leather band. The watch is fully serviced, and comes with a two year warranty.

Is this worth it, or should I keep looking?

If the case and crystal are decent - and you like the watch - that is a decent deal. You can always hunt for a vintage Jubilee bracelet with the money you save.

I'm not sure what your misgivings are.. that isn't a bad price at all for a 70's, serviced Datejust..

As for "papers", you've been reading too many forums.. The Dealer will give you "papers" when you buy it. The idea that you might find any Rolex from the 70's with an original bit of paper are pretty far fetched... they are really quite rare...

Good advice so far. You'd be lucky to find a SS Airking in that pricerange. PS, a DJ looks great on a strap.

Welcome to TRF.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

If you like it, get it.

I would suggest you to chose 16233 with jubilee bracelet.
Date just is a classic model (dress watch)

I'd say it's a promising starter watch. Get it and get used to the brand, and I assure you you will want to upgrade it. It may take a little while for you to realize that, but it will happen.

So, if you don't mind an experimental phase, by all means. It will not scratch the itch completely.

To me it would be about funds if you like the strap it's an OK deal. I don't like straps and would look for a watch with a jubilee is good condition so you would be closer to $2,500.....

First and foremost, thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'm still on the fence about this watch, as I really want a SS Datejust.

I'll keep you posted.
