Radiomir

Hi folks, I'm contemplating my 2nd PAM already after just entering the dark side before the new year. My first was the sub 24. So that's pretty rugged and casual. My 2nd watch I'm thinking something along the lines of a 000, 112 or 176. But now I'm also becoming interested in the Radiomir watches.

I have 2 questions, 1) what is the difference from a 'black seal' (like the 183) and just the plain radiomir (like the 210)? Is it just the seconds hand?

And are the rads not as desirable amongst Panerai enthusiasts as the Luminor? Do they go well with lots of strap combos? Casual and dressy?

Also

I really like the 232, and I think it looks like a radiomir version of the 372. But I don't see the same kind of hype for the 232. Is there a reason?

Thanks for any insight!

1. What is diff between 183 and 210?
Just the second hand and obviously the dial wording. The 183G did have a slight variation opposed to the H-current line up. Same movement in both watches.

2. Do most like Luminors more than Radiomirs?
Yes, most do, but I'm a die hard Rad fan myself.

Now, I answered your "2 questions", but it appears you have more.....

3. Do they go well with lots of strap combos? Casual v dressy?
YES!!!!! That is one reason I love them so much.

Look great on gators......

Look great on ammos.....

While Luminors look good on gators, they really shine on the ammos, while I think Radiomirs look superb on both.

4. No hype for 232?
232 is a money and is highly respected, but 372 right now is taking all the attention. Keep in mind the 232 has been out for years and the 372 just came out. I personally love the 232, but have a hard time justifying the cost over the 210. I mean, they have the same movement, but the 232 has that brown dial and 2mm bigger. Is that really 5k more? Could be, but I'm not made of money.

BTW, before you ask, yes, I did modify my 210 and put gold hands on it.

mfer, thanks very much for that great response! And those pics are amazing. Thanks for showing me those - I'm happy to see the rads on the ammos. They do look perfect on both. And that's cool that you modified the 210 with gold hands. That looks perfect - and one of the reasons I love the 232 and 372. Thanks again mfer!

Hey mik, what kind of strap is that on your Luminor in the first pic?

Thanks,

I think most people think of Luminors when they think of Panerai.

I have a 177 Luminor and a 210 Radiomir and I couldn't tell you which I prefer. . . Probably whichever one I'm wearing at that time.

Isn't the Cusion case/Radiomir case was how Panerai started in the first place?

Yup! Well, Rolex sold it to them actually.

I'm 90% sure Rolex actually started the cushion case design. I've read that several places but don't have definitive proof. I REALLY wish Rolex would introduce a modest sized cushion case watch. They have the cellini, but it is a bit small.

Here is a fabled Rolex that supposedly existed. They have sold for quite a bit at Christy's but there are some people who think this watch was "invented" recently and only made to look old.

The rads are as desireable as the 1950 case or the luminor case. The thing is radiomirs can be dressed up or down easier than the luminors and can be very nice with many strap combos.
