We're lucky enough that Rolex have produced most of their models in significant enough numbers we can get hold of most models from the past 30 years or so, and the range is big enough that there's usually something for everyone. But Rolex absolutely has to keep inventing and redesigning otherwise they'd become a relic. The Sky-Dweller and the Yacht-Master II, regardless of looks, are a big statement of intent from Rolex - they're still being innovative, and coming up with ideas that haven't been used before, all packaged up with Rolex's simple user interface. This is a level of watchmaking we haven't seen from Rolex for a long, long time, and they're going after the big haute horology boys - Rolex are going to make high-end complication watches robust and wearable. That's no bad thing, and I think we might well be entering another golden age of Rolex... |
