Anyone Collect Matches

I've traveled for work on and off for 18 years; got in the habit of picking up a book and writing down the date inside of it....

I'm in Dallas on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or I would be all over that I was at Hamra for lunch today checking out the pre-owned case and then went to Quarter for lunch

Matches are free, but much harder to come by than 10 years ago, many less smokers and when I ask for matches I get Yellow cab and AAA cab matches alot

High quality match boxes with wooden matches are few and far between anymore...

Impressive collection John!

I unfortunately don't have any of those matches' boxes.

Great collection. When I was traveling a lot, I use to buy a shot glass everywhere I went. I have a nice collection now!

I collected them when I was a kid. I still have a paper grocery bag full in the unreachable top shelf of my closet.

I once did 10 years of pretty heavy business travel and started saving them as well.
They were everywhere until I found the right "vessel" for them. Lots of memories,
lots of great food (Fish Market, San Jose!) and lots of ladies phone numbers...

Took me a while to get the box out. Between me and my late grandpa I have thousands. I have been collecting them for my whole life. With smoking on the outs, matches are hard to come by. Good ones that is. Here is a selection from all my time in Scottsdale in honor of our AZGUY. Great thread you came up with. Have a great day!!!!

Dying item isn't it? I mean I know lots of hotels and restaurants still have match books but more and more do not. It's kind of an old school thing, how much longer will they be around?.

Thanks, love the pics and you ate at some great Scottsdale locations

Funny story, when I moved from Huntington Beach to Scottsdale my movers would not take my matches. Serious hazzard they stated I had them in a box marked "matches" and they said no way. I threw them in a trash bag and put them in my checked bag and flew to Scottsdale that afternoon. No issues at all, this was 2000.

Now, the airlines would arrest me and throw away the key

That is a great story. You would definitely have some explaining to do when that went through the scanner. Scottsdale has many memories for me. What a great place to live.
