Cases are stamped and the more popular sellers, like sports models go through the serials sequences faster than other slower moving models. Unfortunately when the serials are reported on the internet as having been seen in the wild, they are usually on the sports models first, so everybody assumes they are the only serials for current production -- not true! |

Sorry to ask this OP so you may need to get out the tin foil hat again. Does the watch need service after sitting for so long? Everything I've read says watches need service based at time intervals, e.g., 5 years and this includes idle time.

I just thought I'd double check, because I have come across new random serial numbers that look, at a glance, like the old ones :cheers
Yep, that would definitely be a D serial then. The case may have been sitting at Rolex HQ for a while before being made up into the final watch |

not realy-they would have to fake the ser # and the AD Would check- plus fakes are easier to spot after handing real ones all the time.

What is the harm to insist on a new ROLEX from an AD with a more recent manufacture date? While the new random serial number makes it difficult to determine from a simple inspection of the rehaut or the papers, the AD should be able to verify the born-on date for you before you accept delivery. Is there any reason to believe that the movement and the case would not be of the same approximate age? It seems unlikely that at 7 old case would get a much newer movement, doesn't it? Don't they follow FIFO inventory practices?
