Your watch is indeed a late 6263 Cosmograph "Daytona." The dent to the bezel is indeed irreparable, the bezel would need to be replaced to remedy that (figure on $2000-3000 for an authentic period replacement part). Otherwise, the watch looks excellent, and appears to be from c. late 1970s-early 1980s. I would be wary of anyone who wants to replace many parts or polish the case, but otherwise this watch shouldn't need much to be in optimal condition. My best advice would be to do as little as possible.

Regards

Nice watch.

Talk to Ridley.. It is likely that the bezel dent can be reshaped to minimize the damage.. although not as valuable as a Newman dial of the same era, it's still worth more than a new car......

it is a vintage watch of high value, so it may look used.... anything you scrap of or ad will have a negative influence on its value.
have it serviced by a professional without changing the original parts...

congratulations !!

Yes I agree if you could have the series number that would help but it looks like a late big red 6263 and the tropic and pushers could be original (earlier versions of crystal and pushers were different).

Other than having it cleaned, oiled and regulated and may be change the crystal, it should be a straightforward job for a qualified independent watchmaker and for sure Bob R. is highly recommended by everyone.

Cheers,

What a gem of a watch and even better that it is an heirloom piece.

It's a keeper for sure.

Here is the listing price of your 6263 in Jack Road at Nakano in Japan. Jack Road is one of the most famous antique watch shop in japan. The retail lisitng for the 6263 is 2780000yen, which is roughly 35000usd?

FYI...
There were 2 sold via an Antiquorum Auction last year.
One went for $22,500 and one for $25,000.

I was in the same boat

I just had my 1972 6263 repaired by a vintage expert (arranged via my local AD). I had the watch documented by my AD prior to sending it off so that it can be verified when returned. The entire process took over 3 months and cost me 2,600.00 to have completed. The only pieces replaced were the pushers (mine was missing one of the pushers anyways). I was just notified of the finished watch today. I haven't even gotten to pick it up yet, but I was in the exact same boat as you. Here are some before/after pics, keep in mind my dealer sent me the after picture. Feel free to contact me and I can give you the details on who I sent it to and the outcome!! I am very very happy with the way I was treated and the outcome (even though I haven't physically seen it yet).

The top 2 photos are prior to the work.
Bottom is the finished product!

The last thing you want to do is sent it to Rolex, and frankly I doubt RUSA would touch it. It's worth to much.

Follow the advise given and you'll be in great shape.
