Now officially ;-)

" Timepieces such as the Rolex Deep Sea and the state-of-the-art, experimental Rolex DEEPSEA CHALLENGE, carried by James Cameron’s submersible, are the product of nearly a century of finely tuned know-how and innovation. They attest to the pursuit of perfection and the finest engineering. Nonetheless, Rolex’s affinity with the deep does not stop there. It extends to active and sustained sponsorship of renowned marine researchers and ocean exploration, supporting excellence in the advancement of human knowledge." & "In the same vein, James Cameron’s DEEPSEA CHALLENGE is taking us on a new journey, revealing the secrets held by the ocean floor for centuries and shedding light on the deepest frontier accessible to mankind."

11km depth range?? WOW thats nuts. personally i cannot see a big market for something like this. the aesthetics will suffer due to the functionality. if they do make it im sure they will sell some but i dont think it will be a mass produced piece

How could anyone possibly be offended by an opinion of a watch?

Easily. It happens when your ego is inextricably tied to the thing.

Except for the silly, impractical size, I like the overall look of that new DeepSea Challenger a lot. Beautiful modern but retro look. If Rolex would make that in a Sub sized package, I'd wear it. Outstanding.

Are you, dear sir, implying that it's 'just a watch'?

Well, then, bully for you.

Carry on. That is all.

I suspect if they do create an 11km+ DeepSea it will be purely, or largely, as a PR event. Clearly the current DSSD's 12,800 feet in principle capability is never going to be utilised in the real world, but its a great story. In my opinion, it will be a very good PR event for Rolex to create the deepest watch ever, one that has been down to 36,000 feet and withstood the resultant huge pressures involved, a story that generically underpins the strength and capability of Rolex oyster watches. Whether they launch such a watch commercially who knows, but if they did I suspect it would have a very high halo effect price tag attached.

Rolex already did this 50 years ago. Dont really see the point again but then again i dont see the point in the Rainbow Daytona. Even so there are atleast 3 watches currently on the market that can withstand any part of the ocean and then some. The Bell and Ross Hydromax, Technomarine Abyss, and Sinn UN can withstand much more pressure than any mechanical watch ever could (and still look like a watch.). No one has brought this up but the PR stunt could end up hilarious if the watch failed. Stranger things have happened.

I don't really see the point either, a watch you can't buy, went to a depth you can't go... Who that didn't want a Rolex before, would suddenly want one after this stunt???

Perhaps but most people have never heard of these brands. Rolex have clearly sponsored the Cameron challenge as a marketing venture, I imagine their idea to launch a watch on the back of it. At the impractical size (and price) it may not sell many but will likely cover the costs of the sponsorship with the brand kudos attached in effect foc. Obviously they will have pre-pressure tested the watch/watches and know it/they will survive.

...wow. Now I wonder what the price will be. I guess I'll have to vacate a spot in my garage to fill a space in my watch box.

Regardless of its massive size ... it is still very ... Impressive.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting no doubt, but would it be produced for the market or is it one of a kind? Since there are so many fans of the DSSD I bet this massive watch could sell.

Thanks so much for sharing. It's incredible but oh my. If anyone plans on actually wearing that as a watch they better start hitting the gym to build up some arm strength. Well I guess I guessed rigr about no He valve. Didn't think it would have one. What a beast of a watch. If it makes production I wonder if anyone will attempt to wear that in the boardroom? If so I hope they have a great tailor. I'm actually speechless.
