Left Handed or Right handed

This subject may have been touched on before but what the heck.

Why is there no watch specifically made for the right or left hand. I.E. the crown being on either side of the watch depending on which wrist you wear it on?

any thoughts? perhaps rolex could set a trend?

Yes they could be interchangeable like fishing reel handles ... left side or right side

I know Tag makes a golf watch (Tiger Wood has wore it) with the crown on the left side of the watch.

If you stick with proper watch protocol, you are supposed to take the watch off the wrist when you wind or set it.

This takes the lateral stress off the stem caused by pulling the watch up and away from the wrist by the crown, regardless if you are right or left handed..

You know, wind or set it the way pocket watches have been used for centuries.

Rolex, did make a left handed watch, I think it was a sea dweller I.e the stem and crown was on the left side.

I mean ...When you take it off your wrist to wind it or set it, (using the proper protocol) it doesn't matter, the crown is always at the top... just like it's always been.. Moving the stem to the other side is merely an easier means to pull the stem out while on the wrist..

To engineer a watch that is truly "left handed" would require not just the stem to be located at the other side, everything would have to rotate opposite, including the winding spring and movement i.e., counter-clockwise..

Just an observation from an engineering perspective rather than a left hander perspective..

Yes, some watch makers to make them. Jaeger is one of them I think.

Boy I haven't a clue. That photo is credited to James Dowling. As I understand it, in the 70s Rolex made several 18K 1680s left handed as well as some DJs.
I'm sure there all buried in safe deposit boxes somewhere.

Yea, that is exactly what I thought too. You wont be seeing any people out there wearing those left hand Rolexes. Thats like once in a blue moon.

Yea im sure they will fetch quite a premium. Even a right hand version of the Submariner pictured in this thread would be worth a lot, a left hand version, maybe even more.
