Any Yellow Gold Day-Date Presidential Owners, I Would Like Your Thoughts Please...

The yellow gold 36mm DD president is my dream watch. Ever since I was a young teenager I have wanted one so badly. I know they are commonly regarded as being for people over 40 but I never care for stereotypes and I certainly don't care what people think of me wearing one. Currently I own a Deepsea and have 50% ownership of a White Gold Day-Date II too (I share it with my brother). I am seriously thinking of selling both and buying a YG Day-Date Presidential. I know it's deemed as a dress/formal wear watch but if I do buy one I fully have the intention of wearing it 24/7 365, even taking it in the shower and sea. It will never leave my wrist (apart from the 5 yearly service).

What I want to know is what are they like to live with? Do you think it's a stupid idea seeing how great the Deepsea is? Are they really as good as they look? Do you think I am putting myself at risk to being mugged and a subject to theft if everyone see's it on my wrist constantly? I would greatly appreciate any advice from any current or ex President owners.

Thanks in advance

You can wear it anywhere and anytime.... You can get mugged anytime and I do not think they will give you a pass if you have a SS instead a YG...
People do not stare at wrists at all... Only people who like watches do this...
If you are afraid, just insure it..200usd - 300usd

I agree but I personally think that the presidential bracelet is iconic and I think that alot more non-WIS or even thiefs will notice a shinning yellow gold pressi compared to a S/S daytona chronograph etc. After all many people in general think of the gold day-date when the word Rolex is mentioned. It's this iconic watch that represents the brand, well that's what I think. But yes insurance is a very good point. I will definately get it insured.

If you took a 5 hundred people of the street and asked them what a Rolex president bracelet or DD looked like.I would say that only a very small proportion would know or even care. And if you are going to be robbed the thief would just take all the valuables you had no matter what you had on the wrist. And today I would say the most iconic and the watch that most would know just by looks if they looked in the first place would be watches like the Subs.

There is a trend right now with younger people wearing faux gold watches and as such many actual examples blend in with stealth.

...Let's leave it at this, I'm 26 live in a fairly dangerous city and no one notices any of my gold watch. If they do, they assume it's fake.

I'd be more likely to get robbed for: cash, car or my polo shirt!
It's best to use discretion whether wearing a Rolex or Fossil. However, for the most part, I think one is relatively safe with a gold DD.

P.S contrary to what we WIS think, most do not notice watches, especially women lol!!

Buy a gun . . . or wear long sleeves . .

Just go out and buy the YG DD you like !
How many people are robbed each year for their watch ?

I guess that you see it more in movies and series than in real life.

We'll I've still got mine ;-)

You can wear a YG DD anytime. I wear mine with black tie and jeans. It looks good with both.

I had a YG DD when I was 28, I am a few days shy of 40. I wore it every day, every where., as I do my YG Daytona now. If a YG watch is what you want, nothing else will do. There is no age limit on personal style.

You are not an easy guy to get convinced to wear a YG DD.
You start 2 threads . . . .
Shall we buy you one ;-)

Sorry but this is going to cost you a beer to all TRF members !

"goodbye Deepsea, you have served me well"

More likely you will say the same thing to the YG DD within a year of possession and find something more fanciful.
It has happened to so many of us.
I'd go ahead and do it. This way you can say "I did it my way."

This could be a question on family fortunes.

We surveyed a 100 people and asked them what a daydate was?

like many have said, if you're gonna get mugged, they'll take anything you have even if it was fake.

now if you're going to buy a watch to wear and worry about it, you're better off not buying it at all.

Ritchie (OP) from your avatar, you too own a DD/DD2, I am wondering what you think of your dd on your wrist and how often you wear it? Looks stunning on your wrist I must add sorry I can't really tell if it is yellow or white gold from your pic. Cheers! .. James

Hey James thank you. It's a DD2 White Gold. I share it with my brother so I get 3 days to wear it one week and 4 the other. I wear a Deepsea the rest of the time. To me the DD2 feels and looks like a cross between a Submariner and a Day-Date. Some people think the original DD is too small and prefer this whereas others prefer the classic size.

I have actually decided today that I am selling my Deepsea and my half of DD2 back to my brother and getting a normal Day-Date in Yellow Gold. I intend to wear that 24/7 365!

I am 34 and wear my Gold Gold Gold DayDate II (218238 with Champagne Romans) all the time, everywhere except gym, shower, and bed. I absolutely love it and love wearing it - it is phenomenal on wrist, but very heavy. You'll never forget you're wearing a solid gold watch. People will definitely sneak a peek at your wrist, but you he used to wearing it quickly. I cannot speak to the worry of mugging as I stay away from troubled parts of the city - mine is an intetionally sheltered existence. Safety first, and all that!

I've always told members to beware the Yellow Gold President - once you own one, you may never wear another watch!!

Also, I do agree with the post about all the faux gold on younger folks - perhaps people will assume yours is a shiny fake!

I wear my 18 YG DD 24/7 and have for years (not while doing yard work, etc)

We are all watch freaks so we look for what people wear but I don think 90% of people notice or care. It's a classic and a beauty. I've had two DD's. Love them. If you can get one, go for it and enjoy it.

Although mine is a RG day date, surprisingly after I worn it for maybe 320 of the past 365 days I have only had maybe a couple people notice and comment on it (excluding friends or acquaintances who know my interest in Rolex) or jeweler/AD types.

I'm guessing others may have noticed but not commented. I like it that way, I'd be uneasy if I got unwanted attention, and just indicate it is a knock off.
