A friend in CA is interested in a TT DJ with jubilee bracelet. MSRP is $10,400. AD in CA offered BNIB at $8,700 including tax. He wants to know whether he should take the deal. He won't buy from anyone other than an AD, period, although I told him he could do better from a trusted TRF seller. Anyway, seems decent to me from an AD, but I thought I'd ask the group ... good deal or not?

That's over 20% off when you factor in the tax on MSRP. I don't think you'll easily find a better AD deal. But I would encourage him to consider options.

Maybe ask him if he'd be willing to just drive by the AD once a week and leave a $20 bill on the counter as appreciation of them just being there...I think that's what he is leaving on the table.

HA! Well, he insists on going the AD route ... doesn't believe in buying used and doesn't trust BNIB from non-AD. So, for him ... there are no options other than an AD. I've tried to convince him, but there's no sense in talking myself blue "romans" in the face.

Not bad. I would find out some more info on the watch. Serial prefix... Other than that and seeing that he will not consider any alternative options that will save him more money I would say at the end of the day he has been offered a fair price

That does sound like a quite a good deal but as MortgageGuy said he should look into the serial. If it's not a random/scrambled serial then it explains why.

I don't think it's a random serial, but he's unconcerned about that. As long as it's new, unused and comes with the Rolex warranty, he's happy. He has no plans of selling and loves the watch. So, based on the comments here, I think I'll tell him that it's a decent deal ... for an AD purchase.

Hmmm... To me that's not a good deal but then again I am frugal when it comes to my discretionary spending and seeking out respectable deals

That is a very good deal from an AD for a new TT DJ (tax included in price). Make sure it is an engraved rehaut and the jubilee is a super jubilee. Random Serial Numbers is nice but at that price I would not hesitate.

I paid about that for my random G late last year and it was a long battle to get there.

Assuming it's at least a G or Random serial I think this is a good deal from an AD. Your friend could do even better however from a reputable grey dealer or a TRF seller.

It has an engraved rehaut and a super jubilee bracelet. I believe it's a D2 serial number, BUT he says it comes with the plastic warranty card rather than the paper warranty. So, its probably been at the AD for a while, and perhaps he is willing to discount it in order to move it. Since he says he is not looking to sell it, I don't think the serial number is an overriding consideration for him. He just wants new and authentic from an AD.

I mean there's $700-800 in just tax they are paying for you..
