I personally do not think there is anything unethical by the thread starter.

He paid a 100% of the pawn shop's asking price.

He scored because he knows more. Enjoy the watch in good health!

What I don't understand is the pricing. If he thought it was fake then why was he selling it at such a high price ? $1,700 for a real watch is ridiculously low but $1,700 for a fake watch is ridiculously high ?

Also why would he not take it to a Rolex AD and have it checked out ? Doesn't make much sense on his part.

Congrats on the deal though. My only guess is maybe the guy was so annoyed about the Breitling story that he wanted done with selling watches so didn't care either way.

I'll also agree that nothing unethical happened here. He bought a piece from a shop and paid full asking price.

A customer has no duty to notify a shop owner of anything do they ? Your duty is simply to pay and he did that. The shop owner has to notify the customer and he did. He suspected it was a fake. Only a fool would of turned around and said "actually I think it's real would you take some more money please ?"

It's refreshing to hear a story where a member of the buying public has had a great deal!

The pawn shop owner was slack and the OP wasn't and benefited - This is how business works at times!!

I think any negativity towards this transaction is absurd. Nothing untoward has occurred here whatsoever?!

This is easily within the top 10 of what I have found to be the most interesting posts I've seen on this forum.

Great story.

Bingo. That's exactly what he said. He wanted out of the watch biz. Also, he did think the bracelet and movement were real, hence his price of $1,700. He figured the case, dial crystal etc were not. $1,700 for the movement and bracelet makes sense.

Here's a few A serial with "Swiss Made". Are these correct? I'm by no means an expert and am just curious if these are later A serials with Swiss Made and if this is correct.
