Greetings and Aloha!

Greetings.

I discovered this forum while doing some research.

I wear a GMT Master II "Fat Lady."

My wife gave it to me 21 years ago for my fortieth birthday.

It has kept impeccable time all those years, despite working in an extreme environment.
I have not babied it.

I served nine years in the Marine Corps and have flown helicopters, professionally, for 38 years.

I have flown EMS helicopters, exclusively, for 24 years.

Of note, I have also remained clean and sober for those 24 years.

I ride bicycles, a lot, almost to the exclusion of cars.

I enjoy discussing history and politics, and I have a long-time fascination with violence and non-violence in speech and writing.

I have joined this forum to ask advice regarding some issues surrounding the recent restoration of my "Fat Lady," and I hope my fellow forumites can give me some good advice.

Aloha.

Ken,

Looking forward to your inquiries on the Fat Lady. I bought mine used earlier in the year. 1986 model.

I tried to start a thread, titled "Reality," in the Rolex-specific sub-forum.
However, a message said I had to wait for a moderator to review it.

That hasn't happened yet, and I don't how far to go into this on this sub-forum.

Let's say I need a reality-check and some advice regarding a recent restoration of my "Fat Lady."

I have some concerns that the Reality thread hasn't appeared because the moderator thinks it too controversial or politically-sensitive.

I have PM'd two moderators and hope for some feedback soon...or for the thread to appear.

I need some advice before the end of postal service on Monday, 8 Oct, 'cause I'd like to get this watch back to the watchmaker as soon as possible.

Hi Ken, Welcome!

Congrats on owning one of the more rare Rolex GMT references.
As I'm sure you know, the GMT-MASTER II reference 16760 was only made circa 1983-1988, and was the first GMT to feature the semi-quick-set date feature via the de-coupling of the 12 and 24 hr. hands that lend themselves to the jump hour feature.

Whith this GMT owners were now able to read local time on the dial and use the rorating bezel for a second time zone.
Dubbed the "fat-lady" by a noted German collector the 16760 featured the then new 3085 movement. Because this movement was a bit taller than previous movements the case was expanded to allow the movement to fit. Also of note were the larger crown guards fitted to the case. The 16760 was only fitted with a RED/BLACK insert, though certainly inserts from the latter 16710 will fit, and of course, only a tritium dial was ever used.
Never sold in great numbers due to it's running con-currently with the cheaper 16750 (which featured a true quick-set date) the 16760 is now finding it's way into the collector's arena.
Little known to many is the fact that early 16760s were issued dials that read "OYSTER PERPETUAL" Rather than the more common "OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE" much like the older 1675.

While the watch seems normally to be fitted with a 78360 bracelet with 501 endlinks the 91350 is an acceptable option.

Mine circa 1987,

And with it's slimmer younger brother,

Thanks, Mike.

Beautiful pictures.

Does anyone know why my posts appear here, but not in General Rolex Forum?

That forum seems very active, but my posts don't appear there.

Did you orginally post on this sub-forum? This one is more for introductions and perhaps doesn't get the traffic.

Well, a post of mine has now appeared in the General Rolex Forum, but not the thread I attempted to start.

I sure would like some feedback.

If the thread disappeared into the ether, I can write it again.

However, if the moderators object to its content, it would save me some energy and time if I got some feedback to that effect.

I can live with it.
