Now, all of a sudden, we've got Daytonas coming out of our ears!!

Hi guys,

In recent times, we've had a number of members buying up SS Daytonas left, right and centre.

Love the Daytona for its good looks and possibly world's best Chrono movement, but personally would never buy one.....because....

1. No date.

2. Stationary Chrono hand would drive me nuts!!

3. Too many $$$ to be forking out for a watch which has basically only one practical function - TIME!!

But it's still one of the finest looking watches in the world!!

I have noticed that too JJ! I thought I was the only one.

It seems like each and every week, a member of TRF gets a

brand new Daytona. I guess Rolex is starting to match supply

with demand.

I like the Daytona because of its DESIGN and QUALITY.

The Rolex cal. 4130 mvt. is considered to be one of the best chronograph mvts. EVER made (it is on the "Ten best mvts." list I saw somewhere but cannot find it right now being at work).

I love the new, IMHO more logical "Tricompax" arrangement of the subsidiary dials with the continously running seconds at six and the minute and hour counters at 3 and nine.

IMHO; this watch does not NEED a date, and a date aparture would spoil the whole design of the watch.

Furthermore, some other improvements compared to the predecessor, the "Zenith" cal. 4030 mvt. is that you now have a HACKING second's function (i.e.: you are able to STOP the continously running second's hand via the winding crown). Also, the much sturdier made bracelet with its improved clasp with the "Easy Extension" link and solid centre links add to my fascination of that specific watch.

Since I don't LIKE TT watches, and cannot afford an all-gold Daytona (and also would tend to find SPORT'S Rolex watches in ALL-GOLD a bit "missing the point", since "sports" and "gold" don't really match), the STAINLESS STEEL Daytona was pretty much the ONLY choice I had to get the Daytona.

Maybe the hardest one to get, but IMHO also the most beautiful of them all.

Maybe it's because this is TRF that we see so many Daytona's being bought up due to the fact that members here are keener and work harded at securing their Daytona's.

It's the same as any venture right? If you put in the time, and the money of course then you'll get results.

Think of just how many more out there are waiting for their Daytonas that we don't hear about??

Amen Bo!!! Well said. The Daytona is my favorite chrono and probably my favorite all time watch. I also like the tricompax subdial arrangement with the subdials at 3, 6, and 9. What you describe as the function of each of the subdials is called "Hunter-style construction," not tricompax. I read that in a WatchTime article. The Daytona is one sharp looking watch!

Yes, the arrangement is "Hunter's style", but ALSO "Tricompax"

The Zenith has Tricompax arrangement, too, but the continously running seconds at NINE arrangement was the socalled "Lépine" arrangement.

It might also just be a case of SS Daytonas being "easier" to get only AT THE MOMENT! The market goes up and down all the time. IMHO, it is just a question of normal market fluctuation.

Many on the list for the SS Daytona give the AD the "dont want it, cant afford it, bad timing"-response when they make that famous Daytona since those customers being called already GOT the SS Daytona from another AD since many let themselves be put on the list at several AD's.

I agree Bo. It's just a spurt at the moment :) Look back a few months ago and you would not see this type of SS Daytona activity on TRF or any other watch forum.

I love the SS Daytona phenomenon. I am on my third one. I'll learn my lesson this time, not sell it :)

I can pick one up at 10.5k bnib right now at this AD, but I just dont want to. I mean I know the watch is worth that much because of the market but I just cant justify it. Especialy now that Im acutally on a "list", thank god for that. Its worth the wait for me, if I do get it later. Im just going to have to wait for that call like everybody else did.

Didn't know they used words like hunter and lepine for arrangements on dials , for pocket watches a hunter case is one with dustcovers (or semi hunter for 1) and lepine was a watch maker and a type of movement.

Great review. If I had the money and didn't care about the date function, I would have gotten a Daytona in addition to my SMP Chrono that has the 3303 movement.

Too bad the 3303 was marred by QC issues, and at first was hesitant on getting my SMP with the cal 3303. However, been said that if it breaks, it breaks right away. So far (knock on wood) mine is resetting correctly.

The cal 4130 has an impressive 72hr PR while the cal 3303 has a 55hr PR. Does the date function eat away at the PR at all? I'm assuming it does not.

To all you Daytona owners, wear your watches in good health!

Thanks Bo....I would feel better if I'd ORDERED one....but I'm on two lists waiting. Best to forget about it I know, but then I see everyone's gorgeous photos! Ha! I do plan on checking in with the ADs every few months to make sure I'm still on those lists! We'll see what happens. In the meantime I do have my 16610 which I adore!!!! And the 116234.....which may soon be going....

Give those AD's a call! You have to make yourself heard or else you might just be "forgotten" on that list.

I guess that would also mean that you could not forget it totally, but try to get it out of your mind after having placed those calls.
