I have a Scratch question on my Explorer 1
I hit my Explorer against a painted wall and there is this weird residue stuck on the watch crystal now. It doesn't appear to be a scratch. Rubbing alcohol wont remove it?? Any ideas?

You might try acetone in the mean time.
WD 40 has solvent qualities, but it may not be good because of it's penetrating qualities, so use should be cautious, which is also true of the acetone and the Cape Cod cloth.

Cape cod shouldn't hurt your crystal either.. it is synthetic stone and very hard to scratch or polish with simple hand buffing clothes..

not sure what materials the rolex o-rings are made of but you might want to be careful not to let any of the above get near the crown - not all orings are the same and some elastomers don't like all liquids . . . .

There is an extremely tough but flexible scraping tool readily available. it is guaranteed not to damage your watch even when applied with high pressure. it also has a very sensitive feed back mechanism. I refer to the humble thumbnail ( assuming you don't bite yours) .This is not meant to be a sarcastic posting. I too had an odd mark on my crystal and tried everything, toothpicks, the edge of a credit card, cottonbuds soaked in washingup liquid and various solvents. Nothing worked , humble thumbnail took it right off though I am not discounting the theory that the previous attempts had already loosened the blemish. Good luck.

I was in a dunk tank for charity and got paint on the cyclops. Tried all sorts of things. Finally, Windex aand a pocket Swiss Army knife and I was able to scrape it off with no damage.

Thumbnail works well on the synthetic saphire X-tal. Got a doozy of a paint 'scratch' on my Air King and the 'ol thumbnail worked perfectly. Finish w/a light Cape Cod polish and you're all set. Good luck!
