Tourists buy Rolex and Cartier watches at half the price in Denmark

COPENHAGEN: Original Rolex watches at half the price compared to the Far East and USA, are some of the articles most commonly purchased by tourists from Japan, Korea, China, and USA, during their visit to Denmark.

Flemming Jørgensen, Managing Director of the Klarlund jewellery stores in Copenhagen, tells us about the interest of the tourists in Rolex- and Cartier watches as well as Danish designed jewellery, predominantly the Georg Jensen brand.

‘The interest is huge,’ he says, without revealing the exact turnover of the Klarlund stores. He indicates, however, that we are talking about a multimillion USD amount.

Jørgensen points to the fact that Klarlund has a large number of repeat customers, especially Japanese.

‘Of course, we also have many Danish customers, but the tourists account for 65-70 per cent, so naturally, our company first and foremost is geared to cater for international customers,’ he continues.

Klarlund´s main store is situated at Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen, in the building facing the Central Railway Station, where also the Danish Tourist Board is domiciled. Apart from that, other stores are located at the shopping street called Strøget, and in the two Radisson SAS hotels, Royal and Scandinavia, respectively.

Klarlund is from my hometown and they have two shops

I've bought from them a few times and they are the ONLY AD in Denmark that doesn't discount.

The vast majority of their staff are up their own arses, don't know what they're selling. Last time I paid them a visit they had no idea about the new SkyDweller, I had to show it to them on my phone.

When DKK is converted into any foreign currency Denmark is one of the most expensive places to buy a fine timepiece.

e.g. an Exp 214270 is £4030 in the UK, Denmark close to £5000. Exp 42 in the UK is £5530, close to £6000 in Denmark.

Service in the UK is about £400, starts at £600 in Denmark

and so forth.

Having said that Copenhagen is a hot spot for super-rich tourists because of the royal family, tivoli garden, hc andersen, design etc, and they snap up whatever they can get their hands on and of course at full retail.

from what I've been told (ex girlfriend knew her from back in the days when she lived in Tassie) Mary was certainly no virgin by the time Fred got his hands on her. really, who goes to the ship inn... it's like a mt isa boozer

everyone likes her and my old company used to sponsor golf and we'd get Mary to hand over to trophy. you can still detect a bit of bogan in her though

having said that, she's a right milf and she can sell me a unit in sydney any day

but most if the article is actually true. There is so darn many tourists visiting their stores and buying, so it is plausible.
The tourist can also got some or most of the VAT refunded (momsrefusion) at the airport (25% VAT(moms) is included in all the Danish prices)

But as a Dane, they don't really do any discount for us natives :D

Funny - seems to work. On an unrelated social networking site, someone suggested buying one there.

Since it's pretty unlikely that they would even get Rolex watches at half-price wholesale, it's even less likely that you could buy them for that..
