Sea Dweller with a new style glide lock bracelet would be perfect.

Hmm no it doesn't.

If I had to pick only two watches they would be the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. They are the closest it comes. Kudos to Mr Genta on that one.

If you asked me to pick just one ? I'd tell you to get lost :)

My perfect watch... No quibble and for me unobtainable, however, one can dream... Right?

I feel there are a number of different very nice watches, so instead of just one I've decided to get a few.

It's not a question of whether the perfect watch exists, the question should be 'can a WIS can happily live with only one watch for their entire life?'. If the answer is no, then there is no such thing as the perfect watch!

Part of the beauty of horology is being able to appreciate the work of others. I consider watches to be similar to paintings in the respect that even though it may not live up to 100% of your definition of perfection, it can be darn close.

You will never obtain 100% perfection unless you craft the item yourself, since no one thinks like you do.

I have a similar philosophy. I don't think perfection exists, but I appreciate watches on their own merits as pieces of fine artistic jewelry and horology (if they have any worth appreciating...). I tend to appreciate a watch more if the movement is unique and not outsourced as well. Though, I think an analogy with prints is more accurate, since paintings are usually one of a kind, while prints have multiple printings (unless we are discussing custom made independent watches, in which case the painting analogy can fit well...).

Most of the watches you mentioned are perfect, the imperfection is in us.

Jk I wish the sub c had a smaller clasp, gmtc did have a little less harsh bezel font, and the Daytona could find a way to make the hour markers a bit nicer, having said that I love them all and would be proud to wear any...

I thought the GMT-C in two tone was the ultimate watch, and bought one off DavidSW without ever having seen one in the flesh but only in photos. Being a 16610 owner, when the 116613 arrived the thick lugs just killed me to look at in comparison, and I really couldn't get use to them. The options were to flip it, keep it and try getting used to it over time, or have the lugs ground down so the case was the same size as my 16610 thinking that then, it would be the perfect watch.

Fortunately, after a few months of casual wear sanity prevailed and it's my favourite now. It's still not the perfect watch though, and I don't think one exists for most people. Which would explain why there's no shortage of folks on this forum with between 2 and a ton of top shelf watches in their possession and they're still scanning the For Sale section daily!.

I think if I had to choose the perfect watch for me it would be a submariner. It's the perfect watch for play & yet can look great with a tux.

Sky moon isn't a water resistant watch. How can a non water resistant watch be perfect ? Any educated person would change it and make it water resistant in case of an accident or wanting to wash your hands. Ergo not a perfect watch.

My dream Rolex is (I've mentioned before a few times in this forum) a Rolex Sea Dweller.

Case: 16600 old style, 116610 new jumbo or 216570. Between 40-42 mm. My only prerequisite is, it must be well proportioned like 16600. It mustn't be very big, small, thin or thick. It must just looks right.

Dial and hands: New style maxi dial hand and hands. No Ring Locs System, Helium Release Valve or similar writings.

Bezel: Ceramic.

Bracelet and Clasp: Solid new bracelet and Glidelock.

Water Resistance: 1220 m is enough, but if possible without changing the case's proportions, higher WR is ok.

In current collection, Submariner and Milgauss is close to perfect for me.

I don't know if there is such a thing as a perfect watch but I'm sure a few come pretty darn close.

I would say my GMTIIC is pretty darn close to overall perfection but there are still many things it is missing.

1. There is no RG or WG version
2. No glidelock clasp
3. I wish the green in it was a little more like the Hulk's green rather than being forest green

My perfect Rolex would be as follows;

- Submariner
- based on 42mm Explorer II case
- lug holes
- maxi dial & hands
- no date
- Glidelock clasp

The new Sub no-date comes close for me, but I'd prefer a little bit larger and more traditional case shape. I'd also love to see a return to a case with lug holes. Rolex could make this happen and even use an aluminum bezel, as a special edition model. I'll keep dreaming......... ;)
