$35 max for any personal items damaged on duty where I work. i.e. sunglasses and watches. No way I am wearing a Rolex to work and get into a knock down drag out fight with some tweeker. |

Come to think of it, I don't believe my agency has any policy at all on personal items damaged at work. I was going to call and apply for some insurance on my Sub this week or next, and I think I better get the lead out. I wear it on patrol, but like I said I can always ditch it into a cup holder. On the other hand, I have seen folks sentenced to repay damages somewhat frequently, not that our local street mutts could pay for a Sub to begin with...
Steve- had a similar experience in the kitchen, too. I have a healthy respect for blades now, and after a good friend got a severe cutting courtesy of a garage door window, glass as well. Ever hear of a partial thread hijacking?

Our dept. would not help us at all with damages to personal property while on duty. Our only recourse would be to charge the bad guy with damage to property and hoped the judge would rule in our favor. Collecting would be another story...

My boss will pay 100% in full replacement cost if I break or lose my watch while on or or even off the clock.
He's a great guy. Unfortunately, I'm self-employed. He's still a great guy, though.

Great thread and interesting stories......Bama are you still going to Iraq in the New Year ?
I would have thought that being a serving police officer would be a reserved occupation....it certainly would in England ! Good luck if you are still going..... |

I'm just a volunteer deputy sheriff, so when on duty I wear my timex expedition.

Well, $62 is not bad considering a complete overhual is around $500. Main thing I could see getting damaged while working as a LEO is the crystal getting cracked. So $62 plus a little from your own account will suffice to replace.

Anyone, LEO or otherwise, who wears their Rollie or other expensive brand 24/7 would benefit from an insurance rider to cover their timepiece. For under $150 a year, my watch is covered against theft, loss or accidental damage. This allows me to relax while wearing mine on duty.

I am a motor in So. Cal. and used to wear my Omega on a daily basis, 10 hours a day 4 days a week. That was until the bezel faded from dark blue to light blue and the tip of the second hand completley faded from red to nothing. Cost me 500 bones to fix it. I layed my bike down at 40mph one day and somehow saved the watch from any damage. I got my LV and am not taking any chances, eventhough I'm sure it would hold up. I wear my Luminox while riding at work. That's my 2 cents, stay low and stay safe.

You're asking for trouble if you wear an expensive timepiece in a tactical situation. Just my two cents. Either it will get lost or it will get damaged on the job (unless you're a desk jockey like me). I go to Police Admin wearing my sub, then back to my desk at the prosecutor's office, where the Sub is "presumably safe". |
