You will end up with a very unique watch!

Personally, I try to avoid drills from coming into contact with my watch.

It can be done for sure. But I wouldn't try it yourself. Need to find a high end machine shop that really knows what there doing. Have no idea what rolex would think about it when you send to service. I bet you'd be the first to do it. Keep us posted

i think its a great idea .... in theory.
1 possibility is project x, they do a semi solid spring bar thing as one of the routine cusomizations.

Seriously, if you know beyond a doubt it's a watch that you'll keep forever, then why not, assuming you can find someone who can do it right. Being a lug hole Sub owner myself, I understand the appeal. But if you're not absolutely sure it's a keeper, then maybe you should resist the temptation to modify it.

By the way, ending the lug holes was a major dumb decision by Rolex IMHO.

Shouldn't be to difficult a thing to do.. Certainly would be unique.

I have not seen one done, but there are companies that specialize in modifying Rolex watches, like Project x, Pro Hunter, Everest Homage watches, etc...

Purists may not like it, but some people don't like hood scoops on hot rods too..

I'm a fan of lug holes. Do it right and it will be awesome. Do it wrong, and...

Its 100% doable...Dont know how that would affect your service warranty since its brand new.. Im actually wondering if you sent it to Rolex for service, they may actually charge you for a new case!! You guys would know better than me, as you have more experience here, but Ive heard of case where people with aftermarket dials, end up having to have the original dial for their respective model put back on at their expense, when getting a service...

I agree. Do it right and it would be awesome! I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I'm concerned about the number of issues that have been raised here.

If you do decide to get it done, I'd love to see it.
Cheers,

If you really want it, do it.

It can be reversed by filling in the hole and polished. Just make sure the brushed surface on the lugs are not damaged.

It would be very expensive, and somewhat difficult.......I posed that ? to some engineer
buddies, you'd have to take the watch apart, find right tooling......RSC should get the old lug hole drilling machine & offer that service to those of us that like old school.
As an asides, I have seen quite a few Grand Seiko watches since some are sold in the USA & the SS ones I've seen have lug holes.
I don't mind them, they don't detract from the shape/lines/look of the case.....they sure make it easier to remove bracelets.
I have written to Rolex NY & Switz. re; lug holes, no replies, waste of postage......this leads me to assume they are not lug hole afficionados there, perhaps they are just a@#-holes?

I am not a fan of lugholes, but would love to see you give it a go.

Be sure to take some pics or video along the way.

I would totally agree with this. Attempting to drill from the outside of the case and match the same size and axis of the existing hole would be ridiculous. There are ways that that could be done, but I don't think you would want to pay for it. You could always go with a larger drill as a relief hole and attempt to meet the existing lug hole if a thru hole was desired.
If you are just talking about looks, drilling a hole partially into the case without concern for meeting the existing hole may not be that bad, but I wouldn't do it.

Why not put a maxi dial, fat minute hand and green bezel in you lug holed case?

Or buy an LV and swap the movement/dial/hand and bezel into the lug holed case and the vice versa.
