Your favorite men's colognes?

You know, I dress like crap, getting married 10 years ago was pretty much the last time I wore a suit. I just don't care much about clothes, fashion, etc. I do appreciate many things however, good food, a really well engineered car, a fine mechanical watch, of course, :) and, I like to smell good!

I don't care about the BS marketing that surrounds fragrances, I just like the ones I like. I often hit the testers while waiting for my wife at the mall, or on a cruise, and when I smell one I like, I know I like it, and I don't really care who makes it.

Anyway, I like scents that are what I take to be light, crisp, a little citrusy, and not heavy, overly sweet or overpowering. I vividly remember how I used to love the old green bottle Polo cologne, you know, in the 70's, early 80's, now when I look back, I can actually remember that smell very well, and wow, that is NOT one I'd be wearing today, I get a little nauseous just thinking about it. :) Pierre Cardin and Drakkar weren't any better.

So far I like Dolce and Gabana light blue, and Sport, Armani Acqua Di Gio, Ed Hardy hearts and daggers, there's a Burberry I like but don't recall the name, there's a Calvin Klein I like called Summer, but the yellow/green one, the orange one is a little too sweet IMO. There's a Boss I like, it's a little heavy but still crisp, I think it's called Night or similar, in a tall, very dark blue bottle. Picked up a new Boss called Pure, so far I'm not 100% sure about it, bought it before I smelled it. I smelled one at the mall today that I really liked by Givenchy called Play Sport. Might grab one of those.

I'm not really "into" these things, I just really like to smell nice, and I like to have a little variety. The same one gets boring. I usually have 4-5 different bottles at any one time.

So, I'm wondering 2 things:

One, any other light, crisp, citrusy colognes you'd recommend I try?

And, are there any go to online shops that offer genuine product at a very good discount. Because one thing I hate even more than smelling bad, is paying retail. :)

I love Armani Diamonds Armani attitude V by Valentino. I have Green Irish tweed from creed which is great but has NO longevity at all. I like ferragamo F also!

I'm afraid I'm not a cologne wearer. I have nothing against it but so far I've never really got an interest for it. I'm more of a Mennen Speed Stick deodorant man...

That summer citrus smell is common, most of brands make those like Dunhill (Fresh), Dolce sport, gucci sport,,,etc. But i don't like to wear them excessively in the summer because citrus and sweat aren't bestfriends. You can try Jean Paul the classic one is great (Leon posted some of it's pics). Dunhil makes a great one summer perfume, very ocean like and unique called Pure.
If you decided to go for something abit sweet but yet for summer check out Escada summer heat,,, i must get one of those again. Perfect for night time ;)

I mostly use their Sandlewood range (warmer and richer) but I love the freshness of the Lime.

Personally I find Trumpers very good at striking the balance to make a man smell good without being "perfumed", if that makes sense. I'm not a fan of some of the more famous brands that seem to want me to smell like a whoores-handbag!?!

I suggest trying Clive Christian fragrances, my personal favorite being the No. 1 - it's very different from other fragrances, at first it may seem to have a bit too much of that floral scent; but eventually you'll fall in love with the perfume. It becomes very oriental, and lasts for a long time.

There's also other fragrance makers like Parfums MDCI that have produced, probably my second most worn perfume the Chypre Palatin and the Ambre Topkapi.

If you are serious about your scent, I'd recommend looking into these fragrances.

I have two that I use, Trumpers is my "go to" Cologne, it has a sort of barbers shop smell, Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet is the other, more an evening wear, it sounds kinda girly but isn't.

With regards to the Trumpers, the cologne in glass bottles are quite expensive, I was given one as a present, I use the plastic refill bottles that are very reasonably priced to recharge my glass bottles when required.

Tuscan Leather that was mentioned a bit up is very Nice but more or less a polar opposite of what the poster is looking for.

Creeds MI is probably too sweet, but worth a try as it is in a whole different league then most other scents mentioned here.

In perfumes, what you find at the mall is usually the Quartz watch of perfumes. This includes the designer frags I used to think was the greatest out there.

I love Cool Water.

It was recommended to me by a girlfriend about a decade ago, and I've worn it since.

And a woman's is the best recommendation to get when it comes to such things, imo.

Somewhat O/T, I got an interesting comment from a coworker the other day. Apparently, I'm one of only 2 guys in my office who wears cologne, and some people apparently find the odor offensive and "douchey".

It's a VERY young office in the Internet industry: average age is about 25 (I'm one of the "old folks" at 38). I'm not sure if it's a generation gap thing, an Industry-culture thing, or a city-culture thing (I recently moved to Boston from Miami).

I have thought quietly to myself several times how offensive it is that some of the guys smell like they haven't showered in days... but never said anything. I was shocked to hear my spray of cologne is apparently more offensive an odor to some.

Sorry to derail the topic, but thought it was an interesting sidebar. Anyone else ever gotten this type of feedback? Is cologne becoming "out of style"?
