Date, or not to date...

Could start a thread on attractive women, but what I am really curious about is a date complication on a watch. I have been collecting for a while. All but one of my watches has a date on it somewhere. My dream Rolex was always a Daytona, but I knew deep down it was missing something. I finally settled on my TT Sub with a date. Does a date on the dial mean that much to you, or to some does it get in the way?

Doesn't get in the way at all. For me, having a date is a prerequisite when choosing a watch.

I'm a huge date person. The Daytona was always my favorite watch as a child. When I got older I realized my strong desire to have a date. I might have gotten a gold Daytona but the fact the AP ROO chrono has a date was a huge winner for me even though I went SS instead of a precious metal for the same price.

Date is mandatory for me - I passed on the Daytona and only just yesterday picked up the new 116300 with Rhodium dial and the all important date!

The date is a crutch. I love it. I only remember the date I've just read on my watch for about three seconds. If I need it again, I look again.
But yes, I have some watches with no date, and they look very clean (especially without the ubiquitous cyclops). That's when I dig out this device I'm typing on right now...

I didn't think I'd need or want a date complication but I got annoyed with my first watch, which I chose specifically because it didn't have a date, when I found myself forgetting the date all the time.

So then I got an Oyster Date, which is a midsize watch. Though I was happy with the size of it, I wasn't delighted with the fact that viewing the 3 o'clock position through the cyclops was a bit tricky because there isn't much room between the date indicator and the edge of the dial.

On 40mm+ watches that isn't a problem. There's enough offset that you can see the edge of the dial clearly without the cyclops getting in the way. And I still forget what date it is so the complication comes in handy.

Any watch without a Date is a deal breaker. The Date function is a must!

I used to consider a date to be essential, and my first Roles was a rootbeer, but since I've picked up a few dateless watches like the Speedy Pro and 14060, I don't notice the lack of date, at all.

I have to have the date. In fact I refer to the date more than the time for some reason. There are some exceptions though - the Milgauss, which has no date for a very good reason, certain Panerai models, and various flieger watches which were designed specifically without the date

Another vote for the date complication....! Yesterday I wore my 1966 Tudor submariner, which does not have a date on it. I was in a meeting discussing fourth quarter software release planning, and I looked down to see how many days were left in August- bam, for a second I was lost...

I also am a huge fan of the cyclops, I think it's a defining feature of my other submariner.

It just depends on what your preferences are regarding the use of a date.

I would agree that a date complication is a convenient feature, however, I wore a Speedmaster Professional as a daily watch for several months and eventually realized, much to my own surprise, that I could actually remember the date.

After a few weeks of wearing a no-date watch, I think you'll experience the same and just start to remember the date.

But let's say we forget sometimes. The date is always available on my computer at work or at home by scrolling over the time in the bottom right, or on my cell phone which is always near me.

There's something about the balance of a no date dial. I believe that this actually adds, rather than detracts from a watch. I wouldn't ever let that stop me from buying a watch that I really like.

It's not a dealbreaker for me. Depends on the watch. My DJ has it and my Daytona doesn't and I adore both!

I wore a Seiko 7a28 no date chronograph for about 20 years, so it was no issue moving to a 14060m.

HAVING to have a date on their watch is the biggest personal preference item in the history of watch ownership..................

I think the Date adds a bit of functionality to your watch. Aside from it looking cool with the cyclops and all. The no date however seems a bit more clean and plain. But thats not my style. I like the date a lot better!

I was always a date guy but I've realized I never use the date!!!!
And if I do then all I have to remember is that the date is one more than the previous day!!!!

I will always have a date watch or two but in no way do I have to have it....can't imagine it being a deal breaker????

No date. I don't wear single watch all the time. Most of time I am just too lazy to change the date. Plus I love the visual design balance better without a date window.
