Anyone have a side-by-side picture comparison of these 2 timepieces, as well as the specs?
I'm interested in seeing the "mm" case length comparison from the end of one lug to the end of the other, along with the case width comparison. |

I just can't DECIDE! They both look absolutely amazing in person. Any thoughts?
I went down to the local jeweler to view the 216570 and 116610. I cannot decide between the two. I wish I could buy both, but I'm lucky enough to get atleast one. I actually came down to purchase the Explorer II, but was asked to try on the Sub. The Explorer II just seems to be the best choice due to its new movement and modernism. It is really nice to see something a bit more modern and different from Rolex. On the other hand, the Sub is a show-stopper and really gives off more of a "Luxury" look. I can see why it is a true classic, but it is also the most common Rolex I see. This will be my first Rolex (I am upgrading from an Omega Seamaster) and I would like to make the best choice possible.
Any thoughts? |

Explorer II, although I wish they kept the gloss dial on the black.

Out of these two, I prefer the Exp II black dial. It is a watch you *must* see for real to properly appreciate
Now, choosing between the Exp II and GMT II C is a bit harder, although the GMT II C is noticeably smaller and dressier

The Sub C is the heir to the ultimate Rolex icon often immitated but never duplicated. IMO the interest in the EXP II 42 will wane over time. It's just a bit overdone in parts and under done in others. It reminds of a modern version of those Russian watches in the 70s/80s. If you wait a year i think you'll see lots of EXP IIs on the pre owned market. Can not say the same about the Sub C. I mean no disrespect to those who are enamered with their EXp IIs. It's just my honest opiniIon having owned and flipped the EXP II. I will never flip my Sub C.

In defence of the Exp II... it has already been out for about a year, and there is certainly no shortage of Sub C's on the pre-owned market. The Sub is, of course, a classic and will outsell the Exp II and even the GMT. But imho the most recent updates have mainly been cosmetic, and it still uses what is essentially a quarter-century old movement. An improvement over the 16610 for sure (especially the Glidelock clasp), but imho Rolex should have done more

Decisions, decisions... Love both, however, love the road less traveled better! 216570 for me!

A handful of happiness there, Sam! Both beautiful watches. The Exp II, in particular, has finally become the watch I always wanted it to be (well, close enough - a Triplock crown would have made it perfect)

I hear you Clive and thanks for your kind words, as with everything in life nothing is perfect, however, the 216570 does offer a level of excitement my other pieces don't bring me, with that said I need to start wearing it more
