Luminescence

What does it take to get your Royal Oak's luminescence going in the dark? Does the luminescence get charged just from wearing the watch during the day? I'm particularly curious about the new 41MM watches 15400/26320, but I wouldn't be surprised if the answer's the same for the 39MMs.

First of all. Welcome on board!

Luminosity is really crappy on APs. It should charge during the day or you can use a black light or LED to charge it and enjoy it for as little as it will last. Even on my Diver the luminosity is terrible. But, even with that being said I love my APs.

I've seen that the Luminosity can be charged using an LED and it will last for a couple of minutes. But that seems to be the only time it's visible.

Agreed that APs are fantastic regardless!

I've got no problems with the lume on either of my APs (Diver and Jumbo). Sure, they won't shame a Seiko Monster, but I can still tell the time at 4am.

Regards,
Adam

Thanks for the interesting feedback. The 15400s and 26320s I've played with also seem to only glow for a few minutes and only when proactively charged/activated. In other words, the lume isn't really functional. I wonder why there would be variability in lume caliber across watches. Seems like 2 Diver owners above have different experiences. And Craniotes has a Jumbo that lumes at 4am, which is a world of difference from what I've seen.

Have no problem on 15400, 44mm or Diver.

All last through the night.

I charge my 15400 with a small incandescent lamp before going to bed, and it lasts the whole night through.

Maybe it's a matter of the type and amount of light the watch takes in during the day (at work, etc.).

Several Diver owners (myself included) complain about the luminosity on the Diver. Actually Paul ended up selling his because the luminosity was really disappointing. My 15300 has actually even worse luminosity.

Zap it with a UV light before you hit the hay and you're good to go.
