114060 Disappointment

Tried on the new sub after help from trf members and must say I was disappointed, I could not beilive how light this watch is. Maybe because I am used to my Omega Seamaster and Planet Ocean and Breitling Chronospace that it felt so light on my wrist. I thought one knock of this watch and it would snap not a thought I've had with my other watches, it is a lovely watch but I would be frightend to wear it in fear of breaking it. I know lots of members on here have this watch so please don't have a go at me as I love the watch just not how light it felt on my wrist.

I'll speak for Padi.....why is it people think bigger, heavier etc. is better?????

P.S. I thought the OP was disappointed in the new ND sub as it was the last tool watch w/ lug holes in the line-up & now they're gone.

Hey it is what it is. I agree lots of Rolex do feel somewhat light compared to other watches. Try a vintage GMT on for size some day! It feels like a toy because the links are all hollow.

Wear what you like. My one suggestion would be to try it again some other day. My DSSD is about as heavy a Rolex as you will see and it is still dwarfed by a lot of the watches you mention.

The good news is that 99.9% of the guys here on TRF will not judge or tease you, but truly wish that you find a watch that makes you happy. (Like me!)

Makes me wonder, if you thought the 114060 with the updated bracelet and clasp felt weak and breakable, then I shudder to think what you thought of the 14060M with the older style bracelet and clasp, or rather any Rolex that does not have a glidelock or easy-link bracelet

It may be 'light' compared to a PO but the case and bracelet is built to the same bulletproof standards as any other Rolex sports watch. If you encountered a force strong enough to break the watch while wearing it, then I pity what that force would do to your arm! :-)

Everything is relative and what you're accustomed to.

I promise you the Sub can take every bit as much punishment as those other watches, maybe more.

It's not really that the Sub is light, it's more that the PO and Breitling are a bit overweight and could benefit from a little dieting. :) Wear a Patek Aquanaut on rubber for a few days, then try on the Sub, it'll feel like an anvil. ( Dont own a Patek, but was amazed at how light and thin it seemed when I tried one on. I'll admit, my first gut feeling was it was flimsy and toy-like, but of course it's really not.)

and that is why I love the Rolex Sub feels nice not too light but not a brick on my wrist either , built to last and outlast ..Just the opposite reaction I tried on the Breitling and that felt way to heavy and bulky for my taste but to each his own , always buy what feels right for you.

maybe the 904L is lighter than 316L but stronger, something like Ti

You REALLY think it will break in half so easily because it is light? Rolex watches are legendary for being sport watches and taking punishment.

I am with Padi on this.

I just don't understand peoples thinking anymore.

That's to bad because the watch is a legend and a work horse. To me it represents the ultimate tool watch.

You can't please everyone, and that's why there are other models out there to select....we are after all, individuals!

Not true - they are both stainless steels, with a slightly different composition

If the 114060 was made of Ti then it really would be light!

I think the sub is as sturdy as they come, but if it's not to your liking then more power to you for being a step closer in your decision making about choosing a new watch.

After all, everyone has their own tastes and we all like different watches for different reasons.

Compare a Sub to most quartz watches. It'll feel like a tank. It's all relative.

Different strokes for different folks.

I think most all SS Rolex watches will disappoint you with that being your criteria.

I have a question, you have been a TRF member a long time, is the your first Rolex experience? I ask because other than the DSSD and Gold models, the 114060 is heavier than most SS Rolex.

Buy the WG Sub if it is weight that you want.

The original Sub/bracelet combo has legions of diehard fans quite because it isn't an anvil on the wrist but a tough competitor that has iconic classic lines. The 114060 is heftier as it is a modern extension of that design, but it is not a boat.

Gotta love it no matter what it doesn't have for all that it does have.

I would said that the older Rolex model was indeed very light

However the new model with new maxi case, bracelets and clasp, the weight improved a lot and feels much solid

I remember in another thread the 114060 is only 2.5 grams lighter than the 116610... not nearly the difference between the 14060 and 16610.

I own both the 116610 and 114060 and they both feel substantial enough IMO, love them both

go for the beast aka DSSD...i'm sure it wont make you feel the same as the 114060..i tried the 116610 felt like its going to break my wrist...

Don't worry, most of Rolex will feel shocking light if you own Breitling or Omega. Soon you will get use to it and later will start pick on why other watches are built so heavy on wrist and made you feel uncomfortable.

Its all in the date wheel. Leaving that out drops a lot of weight out of the watch.

It's plenty strong and plenty beefy. Bigger is not neccessarily better.

Just this week, I tried on the 114060 for the first time. I thought it was thick and heavy and big, not light and fragile. So, I was disappointed for the opposite reason.
