The cost of insurance should be for the account of the OP. Should the watch need another regulation in a period of time then, perhaps RSC should pick it up. However as to the cost , I am dumb founded. When I sent my Rolex to the service center the total cost for egos termed mail plus insurance was less the $20.

Just spoke to RSC in Toronto. No, because the watch was purchased out of Canada the watch has to be sent to Toronto... completely on my coin. Authorized Dealers are not required to work on watches that they don't sell.
Essentially a Rolex guarantee is not worth the water its written in. Now I really do want to get rid of my Rolex. I don't want to deal with a company that is disreputable and dishonourable. It's not the fact that the watch is not up to specs, it's the fact that Rolex does NOT stand unambigously behind its products. That's amazing considering the prestige and reputation of Rolex... how did they ever get it? |

Remember, you have not dealt with Rolex yet. You have dealt with an AD and they come in all sizes and shapes, some good, some not so good. Deal with the RSC direct and then make an opinion.
When I picked up my watch from the RSC last month, they recommended winding it 50 times to get it started. Maybe that would help. |

A company is only as good as its representatives. Gemoro Goldsmiths fails, Rolex Canada fails, and thus Rolex fails.
Any ideas of getting rid of a Rolex without losing too much of its value? |

It doesn't matter. The company itself, Rolex, should be standing behind its brand new products! Rolex doesn't. It's trying to slither out of it's obligations like the purveyor of a ponzi scheme.
I am so very pissed-off and disappointed. I no longer care how good the watch is or how beautiful it may be; I feel I've been ripped off somehow and can't quite put my finger on it or do anything about it. I know a few people who are seriously considering buying Rolexs (Rolexes?) and I will certainly be telling them of my experiences and suggesting saving their money for a worthy company! My wife says that I'm too angry and should go out for a walk. I think I'll do that. |

This sounds so one-sided to me.
You buy your watch abroad, presumably to save some money, and then you are upset that you are not getting VIP treatment from the stores you did not patronize. Maybe you should send it back to Saudi Arabia...

FEDEX charges $150 to overnight a parcel with insurance for the approx amount (Yes, RSC accepts FEDEX as long as the box is sealed with the brown paper tape).

The watch cost over $8000 after taxes and duties. So we hardly saved any money. $8000 is not small change to me: maybe it is to you but not to me.
Looks like I'm stuck with beauty without substance. Maybe I'll come to love it again over time... that happened to a friend of mine who married the wrong girl in high school. But thank you Rolex for the lesson well-learned. Maybe I was too caught up in how pretty the watch is and maybe I was too caught up in the prestige or Rolex... and didn't look close enough at the company. Caveat emptor. My next watch is a Timex. But I really do hope to come to love it over time... sigh. |

I don't understand where is the issue. I have had several products serviced under warranty, from electronics to pocket knives. It is normal practice that you pay shipping and the manufacturer pays for return. As long as they remedy the problem I don't see a problem.

I don't fully agree with your anger, but what did the other AD in town do that was so bad you can't take a watch to them for service? That would solve the whole $100 shipping issue. If that bridge is burnt for some justifiable reason you could also try one of the ADs in Calgary. Not a perfect solution, but you wouldn't be without your watch for 2 months. Just a thought.

Yes, I think you're getting angry over nothing and blowing this out of proportion. Why is the shipping cost such a big issue? I mean, if you can afford a Rolex, I don't see why anyone would be crying over $100 bucks. Rolex does stand behind their product, but you obviously have to get the product to them in the first place so they can work on it. How you get it to them is up to you. I wouldn't expect Rolex, or any other manufacturer, to cover the cost of you sending them the product. Isn't this true of other products? If you had to send a computer back to the manufacturer and the repair work was covered under their warranty, you'd still have to pay the shipping cost, right? Same is true for Rolex. |
