9315 Bracelet - How do I know if the clasp is secure?
I'm peppering the vintage forum with questions - hopefully not getting on anyone's nerves just yet!
The vintage GMT i recently purchased came on a Jubilee bracelet which I am admittedly not a fan of. I negotiated with the seller to instead include an Oyster: he supplied a 9315 folded link oyster which actually has fairly minimal stretch. The clasp seems to be in okay condition, I am just unclear as to whether it is secure or not. It is not possible to close the clasp and have it stay shut without the security tab/flap portion also shut. Is this normal? Without that tab, the claps will absolutely not stay closed. Moreover, the tab (the appropriate name for this part is evading me) is secured by a bar that has a head on only one end but not the other. I am fearful that it could pop off on one side and an ensuing domino effect will occur in which the whole bracelet comes undone (since the tab opened / broke off). Am I being too neurotic? Are these bracelets a lot tougher than it seems and is this a normal characteristic of the 9315? I know a lot of people suggest putting the 9315 away and purchasing a 93150, but having two bracelets is not in the cards for me financially. Any thoughts are appreciated as always! The bracelet says "Patented" on the divers extension as well as "Patented & Registered Swiss Made on the inner clasp which is also stamped with a "B". |

A VERY common occurance on the old 9315 and 93150 clasps mate.
Easy to fix too. Just get a small pair of pliers and gently bend the tabs ( just a little bit) at the end of the clasp so they engage the pin more tightly.
