Here's mine:
I can't imagine how he made this offer, but I would not think twice. Unless your Daytona has true sentimental value which is sounds like it does.

Not sure whether I'd do it, to be honest, but that mostly has to do with preferring the 40mm Explorer II over the super case LV.

This also isn't necessarily that bad a deal for the dealer; the Zenith Daytona can go for as much as MSRP on a new Daytona and ADs may charge what the market will bear for a used piece, while Rolex would flip if they marked up a brand new one.

So it seems the loss he's taking on the LV is his total cost in this transaction, which sounds approximately the same as the discount offered on a new watch as a make good on the damage to the FM. Perhaps he's even banking on those accumulating some collector value in the not too distant future.

The full set A serial 16520 is a fair swap for a brand new 116520.

The 16570 would be a good Ł2k shy of the "hulk".

.... and that's for a member-member trade. An AD offering this would be near (if not absolutely) unprecedented.

Yeah, I agree, this doesn't wash....I'm definitely in the "I'll believe it when I see pictures and receipts showing the net cost to be zero" category...

Outside of a gross misunderstanding in his offer (like either the 116520 or 116610LV for your two)
Then - yes, I'd do it in a NY minute!

I've had the same A serial# combo you do (except both were White Dials) - current combined value used is $13K USD on a good day - so methinks something's screwy here...maybe a misunderstanding. The 116520 & 116610LV combined value is over $21K USD MSRP - the resulting effective discount would be 38%.

This actually makes it sound reasonable.

The AD would be losing nothing and moving more new inventory, all while gaining a customer for life.

Atypical yes, crazy maybe not.

Hard to believe since your dealer would immediately be liable for 20% VAT when trying to resell your watches. So effectively he's losing 20% on the deal?

Yeah, I wouldn't have taken the time to post on here. I would have done it then posted. That deal is way to good to pass up. I can't understand what benefit he is gaining in this trade. Hope it all works out for you

Maybe it's my bad math but how does this play into it. Wouldn't the customers that buy the watches pay for VAT?

Post #84 very succinctly summarised reasons why post #75 doesn't sound logical.
