Good info. I read the whole article. And I recognize the tact. I was in the Bvlgari boutique in Scottsdale and the saleswoman followed the guidance in that article to a T. Even offered my wife a gift and complimented the watch I was wearing. Interesting to learn the behaviors were all part of a well refined pitch.

I would agree. No question at that point.

Perfect!!

I ask you: what better way to enjoy a premium coffee while having some folks jump around, bring and display some of the finest watches known to man! Much better then going to a museum :-))) At Bucherer in Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse they also offer softdrinks, even while looking at Vertu Mobile phones. You do have to "look the part" though, and dont show up too close before closing time:
At the Franck Muller Boutique (also Bahnhofstrasse), looking for a watch for the wife, the lady told us (15 min before closing) "we close at 7pm and we dont work overtime - you cna come in but we close at 7" - :-) no drinks there, so no watch either, not from them at least.

Ps.
At Beyer, Zurich Bahnhofstrasse, there is one of the finest little museums I have seen. Beyer is a family owned shop now in its third generation. They started a museum with all the pieces they have collected over the decades and often have items on display for limited times only and sometimes on loan from other sources, always something unique. Entrance price is only 5Chf. The museum is hidden in the basement of the shop and worth a visit if you ever get to Zurich.

I completely agree. These retail sales trainers/coaches and the companies that hire them don't realize how stupid they sound. There's no doubt this guy's sales techniques worked at places like xerox but it doesn't work in retail because they aren't the same kind of sale.

Having spent my entire life in sales, as soon as I feel like I'm getting led down a path, I call them out on it. If it continues, I walk.

Guys...this thread is from 2009!!!

The Swiss watch industry is doing quite well from what I read.

Nevertheless...the sales techniques are still humorous. I wonder if the consultant in the article works for Turdneau? Hahahah

How does Tourneau rank amongst you folks living in the States? What's their general image amongst watch collectors/buyers? Coz I come to the States once a year or every two, so may pick up something from them enroute ;)

Tourneau is not highly regarded from what I have read here at TRF but you might want to try one or two locations and decide for yourself.
