Seatown,
I don't assume you would do a "buy-it-now" but make an offer. Typically, you should get somewhere berween 15 - 20% under retail. That's the going rate for standard watches in that class. Margins are a % and with higher-priced models you can do better since a high-volume dealer might be O.K. once they make a fixed amount on a transaction. So on a solid gold 20k+ you’d do better than 20%, on rare models maybe closer to retail. That being said, the watch you are looking at is most likely a grey Euro. I bought something similar from a well-known and reputable guy and Germany and couldn’t be happier. Perfect watch, perfect transaction, always again. He is a high-volume dealer and can get almost anything within a week. I let him know reference and config and a week later it comes in. It all comes down to preference. If you desire the AD relationship you’ll pay for that and it might come with perks (being informed when a rare model hits the shop, free coffee, soft drinks, idle chat with the hottie). If you are O.K. hitting Pete's, Starbucks or the local bar after a great deal then maybe you can save yourself some money. The watch is the same quality and heritage as long as the seller has a reputation to maintain. But hey I am biased due to some less than stellar interactions with one AD here in town. These folks are so arrogant you wouldn’t believe it. It felt like the proprietor invented Rolex, made the watch herself granted me the privilege to admire it…..business must be good in town. I didn't even dare asking for a discount, she probably would have called the cops.... |
