Serial Number and Age
Where do you find the watch's serial number - on/inside the watch? on the green tag?
Also I recall reading that you can tell how "old" a watch is or what model year it might be from letters in the serial number - any info on this would be helpful as I don't want to buy a Rolex that has been sitting in an AD's display case/back room for several years - at least if I know that it is "old" I could use that as leverage in getting a better deal. Thanks |

You find the serial number under the end pieces of the bracelet, between the lugs, at 6 o' clock.
The serial number is also noted on the COSC certificate. Here you can see the serial letter system: Rolex FAQ's! CLICK!

Unfortunately, the only way to see the serial # is to remove the bracelet from the lugs. Most AD's would not do it, but perhaps they can show you the warranty paper, which has the serial #.

The serial number is engraved between the 6:00 lugs, on the warranty document (or card), on the green Swimpruf hang tag, and in the AD's records.

I just bought a GMT Master II, and it also has the serial number engraved on the inside of the bezel (on the ring between the crystal and the face). This ring has ROLEX engraved all the way around, except at 6:00 it has the serial number.
