Wouldn't it be really cool if Rolex offered...
choices of different languages on all the face script, (Superlative ..... Officially Certified etc..) on a rolex and not just the numeric date or day as in a daydate model??
i've seen some cool japanese and arabic script on other makes and not just the rolex dd day wheels, and while i have no idea what it says, its certainly appealing. Cronómetro Superlativo Oficialmente Certificado (spanish) Unübertreffliches Chronometer Bezeugte Offiziell (german) превосходный хронометр, официально удостоверенный (russian) 最上級クロノメーター正式に認定された (japanese) χρονόμετρο που έχουν πιστοποιηθεί επίσημα (greek) Superlativ Kronometer Officiellt Certifierat (swedish) 比较级天文钟正式认证 (chinese) Chronomètre Superlatif Officiellement Certifié (french) i'm not a hyperpolyglot, so translations are courtesy babelfish.com. if they're not 100% accurate, address comments to their servers... |

Personally, I'd be happy if it just had "Rolex" and the crown which need no translation.
I think what you're suggesting would be quite difficult to implement. They'd have to make specific dials for specific markets. If they made one in Chinese, they'd have to make one in Japanese and then they'd have to make one in Korean .... and it would never end. |

if people are willing to pay for the uniqueness, it doesn't have to end... its also rolexes suppliers problem to make it happen, not rolexes. i know i'd pay an extra $500 for the option to really make my rolex unique. just my opinion. |

I like the idea of the French text on the dial or maybe German. I think English is so widely spoken and perhaps a subtle nod to the W&D years. French is just beautiful though, I wouldn't mind the change

I want less text on the dial, not a different language.

I think it'll be pretty cool if they offered more in their packaging. My vc comes with a different spare strap to inter change for more options with a USB and travel suede carrying case and a few other things. Most I got from Rolex was a notepad and Rolex pen lol and that was awhile ago

I can take it or leave it. Like the cyclops, the SCOC text has become synonomous with Rolex
The Day-Date offers the day of the week in 26 languages, and other manufacturers do similarly. One of my old Fortis watches could display the day of the week in either English or German, which was neat

If the dial were in French all watches would have to be 50mm or larger.
Well, just a little. My college French teacher, who was French, admitted that French, though a beautiful language, was cumbersome as a business language. English is much more concise.

Damn, there wouldn't be a direct (or even close) translation in Tagalog. I'll stick to SCOC.

haha! interesting comments! i for one think that if rolex can make a watch that goes deeper than a trident sub they can challenge suppliers to get some font stencils for their dials...
i'd still like to see them do something with this but i'm not holding my breath. |

I think it would make counterfeiting the the most copied watches in the world a lot easier with so many possible variations. So from a product control point of view maybe not a good idea. Just guessing here.

i think it would also cut down on dial swaps and frankenwatches as the serial# and owner cards would correspond to the 1st owner config. |

I wasn't thinking the the counterfeiter would make X verions of various dials, but that they could come up with some obscure version and make it more difficult to verify its authenticity.

true, but rehaut serial numbers hasn't stopped them from making fakes. but i understand your point. there'll always be fakes however. it'll never end if a buck can be made. the thing is that obscurity can also make it less profitable for copies as people with copies want their watches to be identified in most cases.
