Any Playstation 3 pro's? - Help wanted
HI all,
My son wants a PS3 for christmas. Here in the UK the 60gb version commands a high price, yet in the States the 80gb version is cheaper (In fact cheaper than the 40gb version) Anyone know the difference between the consoles and also if the US has different compatability to the U.K? Many thanks |

Like with any video device you run into region problems. As I read, in this case is due to the resolution in the PS3. I also read that you don't have to worry about the regions if you have an HDTV that is 720p since all titles support that resolution.

USA uses NTSC TV signals whereas Europe uses PAL. I don't know what format the UK uses. If you're thinking of importing, I'd advise checking into it.

If your son has any PS1 or PS2 games, decide if you want a PS3 that is backward compatible or not.
I got the PS3 60GB that has the backward compatibility built into the hardware. The 80 GB has it built into a ROM, so there are limits on what PS2 & PS1 games it can play. And the new PS3 isn't backward compatible at all. That was the only way for them to drop the price down. |
