Diamonds

I found a diamond I may buy but I have no idea of the value in many cases. It is not like you can comparison shop with one point difference.

1.57 carat, H, SI1, No flour, excellent cut, $8800...

what cut is it? round cut?

Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

I like to do comparisons with diamond wholesalers on the interent to see if a stone is a reasonable price, they're nice to give you an idea of what a typical stone in the quality/size range costs, you can also comparison shop many many stones within 1 point.

I've just been checking on 'Blue Nile' and the price for the quality you state seems average.

I like 'pricescope' and 'whiteflash' for comparing diamonds as well as 'blue nile'

As previously noted, Blue Nile is a great place to compare prices.

When I was looking for my wife's engagement ring, I was talking to a jeweler about what I wanted and looking on Blue Nile for comparison. When I finally found one that fit the specs through the jeweler, I did one last price check on Blue Nile and found that he was buying from them (same GIA cert number) and marking it up to me. So I ended up buying from Blue Nile and it was easy. They have a huge selection and even sent it off to get it micro-engraved with the GIA certification number for a small extra charge.
