Are we supposed to "wear" a Rolex?

So, I've been reading various posts, and have a question. I have stunningly come across a few people noting that they take extreme care of their watches, scotch tape, watch in pocket, etc, etc, etc. I understand that a Rolex is pricey, but am I not supposed to wear my brand new SubC as my everyday watch for the next 7 years? I know its personal preference, but I'm slightly confused. Side note, I do plan to purchase another (older) Rolex when I find a great deal, because one just doesn't seem enough, but I plan to wear that one just as much.

well, i can guarantee that most members here won't outlive their rolex if they're used and not abused... i respect those who look after their valuables but i personally am ok with kinks and scratches on mine... just wear it and enjoy!

Well perhaps I'm the exception but I wear vintage gold watches at work while lifting and placing big bags of dog food and litter, I've never had any problem with any of them and I don't plan to change anything in that routine!

Having said that, they are indeed very expensive and if people want to take extreme care of them it's up to them, to each their own as long as I have the right to wear my watches until they turn into dust!

You can't resell it if you wear it. Have you ever seen a scratch on a pcl. Its a nightmare. Good Scott who in there right mind would want to wear there investment.

Daytona daily watch

I bought my Daytona specifically to wear all day, everyday. It looks great with a suit and casual.

EDIT: I wear the TT Bluesy and the black Expy II in rotation.

I hardly ever wear the Sinn, but it still has my heart, and I baby the white face Expy II because it is the very last one my local AD had!

I think I'll wear the white Expy II again this Thanksgiving!

I bought my Explorer II a year ago and wear it every day. I don't mind it not being perfect, it just adds character. I can understand though, people wanting to take care of their watches, specially the rare and unique models.

I will be buying my first rolex very soon (an explorer 2) and I am planning to wear it every day. I will try to look after it as best I can but I will do that while it is sitting on my wrist.
As with a brand new car. The first scratch breaks your heart but then once you are over that hurdle all the rest don't really bother you. You can't avoid it.

a Rolex without dents and scratches just doesn't look right to me, just like a Toyota LandCruiser traytop without mud!

Wear the hell out of it. It's like buying a Porsche and keeping it in the garage because you are afraid of driving it. Enjoy it.

I semi-seriously joke with the wife when I fly; "If the plane goes down, you'll be able to find me." (The Rolex would survive the crash in some fashion)

I wear my Daytona everyday. I wore my Explorer 2 everyday for 10 years. It's a watch, it is meant to be worn.

Rolex is the one watch that was meant to be worn. I put it on before I brush my teeth. The watch and I are one.

I already got a noticeable scratch on one of the gold links in my TT 116613LN I had it for less than a month. After being somewhat upset for a moment, I got over it and continue to enjoy it as a daily wearer. Watches are meant to be worn. Might as well enjoy the watches as much as we can. Can't take them with us to the grave...well you can but you won't be able to enjoy it then.

We buy them to wear them and enjoy them. It would not be as much fun if you always worry about what could happen.

Last new one I bought 4 months ago. It took all of 3 days to get a scratch on the bezel. I don't even notice it anymore. All of mine have some kind of marks on them.

Wear your Rolex!

Wear the damn thing! That's what you are supposed to do with it, and I hope that's why you bought it! My 1980 vintage ref. 16750. Manufactured in 1980 and purchased new at a PX in Germany in 1982. It has seen me through my entire military career to include my combat tours. It's had a little cosmetic work done over the years but it will always be mine and when I am gone it will be my daughters, so who cares if non original affects value, I don't!
