Rolex Explorer II for Casablanca Extra Large?
A friend of mine just offered me his Extra Large Frank Muller Casa Blanca for a trade for my Explorer 216570. I've always admired his FM but know little about it's value. It's in great shape and all box/papers are there.
What would make this a good (or sweeter to me) deal? Any cash either way, or just a straight deal? |

I would not do that deal at all.
Sorry not much help, you have to decide which watch you would rather own and wear.

You don't say which FM Casablanca model but assuming its a large men's like the 8880CDT retail is $10.100USD. You'd be lucky to get $5k used so I'd definitely want cash back my way. So depending on condition I'd need at least, $2kUSD my way to do this trade. IMO, I'd keep the 216570.

Which casablanca is it? I know Mullers well, I have had at least 10 different ones and still have a long island.

Value wise not a bad deal. Watch wise, I'd hang onto Explorer II. I'm a little partial though! :)

The Frank Muller dial and watch does absolutely nothing for me. I'd stick with the Polar Explorer. That's just my 2 cents anyway. While I know nothing about Frank Muller watches or their workings I just think it looks like they didn't try on the face of it. But each to their own. If you like it, go for it. You are the one who has to wear it.

It's the 9880 CDT, white with date and comes with an extra tan leather strap.

I would pass. Had a FM for a couple months about 7 years ago and haven't wanted another since. There's really nothing special about them. The Explorer II has such history and notoriety as a staple of the Rolex line up.

The only two FM's I've encountered both had big timing issues. One had to be sent back 3 times. However I acknowledge that 2 isn't a very big sample.
I wouldn't do it even if they kept perfect time. FM's are too bold to be dress watches if you ask me and too dressy for casual wear. I also dislike the shape of most of them. Keep the Explorer II. |

Don't like the shape of the FM . . . sorry FM owners . . .
And that's the reason why they make different models of watches . . . ;-) HAGOne |

With all due respect, that watch is hideous and does not even look real. Those numbers look drawn on with a magic marker. The Explorer has everything going for it in a watch, history, innovation and quality.

Thank you all for the feedback, unfortunately it's too late to cure this infected WIS who has almost zero self control.
Traded him with the FM and he added a 16570 noir for some cash from my end. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
