Pre Xmas Rolex shopping

I was in at my AD today. He is also a Panerai AD and I was in to donate my kidney to pay for my Panerai service. All that aside, I have never been in there in the week before Xmas and this place was literally over run with people and Rolexes were literally flying out the shop. Groups of Asian holidaymakers were coming in and buying 2 and 3 Rolexes at a time. It was fascinating to see high end goods getting bought like cheap consumer goods.

He had the Skydweller in RG and YG in stock. Folks were looking, but no one buying. DJs and some of the second hand selection (pepsis and cokes) were the main fare.

No one even asked to see the Panerais and he had more than 25 in stock.

Anybody else seen a pre Xmas Rolex rush?

Greg

Not sure I would call it pre-Xmas, but here in Frankfurt, I see loads of tourists (generally from Asia) who have a 1-day layover after or before flying. I dropped into Bucherer to look around the other week and it was mobbed. There was a group of ten or so and each had at least one shopping bag containing a watch. Needless to say, I did not receive even a glance from the salespeople!

I saw the same in Athens a few months back as well. Every other storefront was out of business, but the watch shops were humming. One seller mentioned that a gentleman came in from China the day before and bought (5!!) Cartier watches.

So, in the end, I think for certain tourists, it's X-mas every day!

Mike

I popped into my local AD just to peek at their inventory last weekend but I couldn't even see into the display cases with all the people trying on Rolexes.

Clearly we still have an economic crisis then.

I suspect I am the only one having one.

I popped into two small independant jewellers last week to browse their stock of pre-owned Rolex, 5 in one shop, 12 in the other. This week I called again and there is 1 ladies watch left, so thats 16 pre-owned Rolex sold in ! week in Wigan Lancs England.
