My first Rolex which one??
Hi,
I've been reading your forum for a few weeks and firstly may I say thanks for all the informative and interesting information and debate. I'm looking to buy my first Rolex, I currently have a Corum Challengers Cup 42. I've narrowed my decision down to either the Milgauss GV or DSSD. I'd appreciate any comments on either.... Can you recommend an AD in the UK and any experiences of buying online, should it be avoided etc. Thanks for your help. Last edited by Mdt; 5 January 2013 at 08:24 PM.. Reason: Wrong title |

Welcome to the forum. The GV and DSSD are two great but very different watches, so I'd suggest you visit an AD or AD's to try them both on, ideally you should try both at the same time. What looks good in a photo, sometimes doesn't translate when you try them on.
You don't say where in the UK you are but I would suggest for trying them on, a visit to a Rolex boutique where the range is bigger, the one in Bond Street London carries loads. On-line carries risks if you don't know what you are looking at, as has been said many time on here, you need to buy the seller. There are some excellent trusted sellers here but irrespective of how you decide to buy, I would recommend you see and try them on before buying. Remember to post the pics when you do and good luck! |

Thanks for the reply. I'm near Watford. I popped into Goldsmiths yesterday and tried on the EXP II, GMT Master and Date Just. In my heart I wanted the GMT but it was too small on my wrist, so I assumed that would also rule out a Sub audits a 40mm as well.
I liked the EXP II but it isn't "sing' to me......... I know the Millgaus is a 40mm but I think it appears a bit bigger as the bezel is thinner and sloped in my opinion. I guess I need to try it on ASAP.... |

Goldsmiths is a good place to buy a Rolex, I have got discounts from them in the past.
To me Milgauss does not appear bigger than the sub or GMT, therefore I would go for DSSD |

You'll know when you try them on which by which gives you the greater sense of "whoooaa - I must have this!!"

At the Harlequin? Had a horrible buying experience there, sold me NOS as new, and when you discuss a discount they look like they've got a bad smell under their nose. EJ in the Harlequin is a bit better, see Andre or Marcus, they may do a deal as they're losing the line soon.

I'm judging the size of the Millgaus based on YouTube videos and comparing it to the GMT I tried on. I guess I need to try them all out for size really
The DSSD is my "normal" type of choice, I.e the typical Divers watch. But.....something about the Millgaus really draws me to it......... There is a site online called Swisswatchdealers that appear to be offering very good discounts for new. Any idea if they can be trusted? At used them? Regarding Goldsmiths I didn't beta great feeling in there stall really but I think it was because they didn't have all of the models I wanted to try on, I left feeling it could have gone better...... |

Yes Harlequin. It's fair to say none of the ones I tried on gave me that "gotta have it" feeling.
I do like something different to the norm and that's why the Millgaus is "calling" me, however as I've not tried it on I don't know how it will feel. EJ in the Harlequin has both the DSSD and Millgaus GV so I think I'll take a trip there on Monday.......... |

As a first? Neither is a very common model. I like the green glass.

Welcome to the forum. I would recommend going to an AD and trying on all the differant watches that interest you. Just because it looks good in a picture doesnt mean you will like it on your wrist.
Take your time and make sure you will be happy with what ever you choose.

Depends how big you and your wrist are IMO.
I tried on my friend's DSSD and it was way too big for my 6.5" wrist. My SubC fits me a lot better. Try them on Monday and see which one gives you the "it's THIS one!" feeling |

Join newturfers.com, thats the UK version of here, and buy from the top trusted seller there, rolexroz, hes like the great Davidsw here, youll get the best price for a new Rolex and its safe.
Near Watford in Herts is xupes.com, they are trustworthy and you can see the watch before you buy and they will also give you a great price on a new watch as they are grey dealers. |
