The official Airplane thread . . .
We'll lets have this thread only for posts about aircraft . . . .
Here is the first . . . 141 pics made at Monthan starting in '66 : "Those memories begin in 1966, and long lines of interesting aircraft spring to mind. " Monthan" is Davis-Monthan Air Force base at Tucson, Arizona. Home of AMARC * or MASDC * as it was known when I first "scouted" it out, travelling there all the way from Scotland. As a schoolboy, I had seen a few photographs of a "Boneyard" in Arizona. They showed stacks of Republic F-84F and F-84G Thunderjets piled four high, that captivated me, it still does. I have made several trips to Tucson and hope to visit a few more times. In this section I will be adding photos and slides taken during these visits, mostly in 1968, when I spent two days walking the base with my good friend Tom Baillie. Now, a quick bus tour is all you can get. Still worth it!!! http://www.dhc-2.com/Monthan_Memories.html HAGWe |

I always wanted to know, where on the dash is the button that makes the wings go up and down?

Had the honor of meeting Leslie Nielsen while working at an airport and found him the friendliest and most gracious entertainer I've ever met.
Sorry for the hijack! dP

There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Paper airplane.
Not sure when it was first invented, but it has kept me amused for hours on end.

I prefer The Jefferson Airplane as the official airplane.

I knew a lady who flew Concorde exclusively. She died several years ago, well into her 90s. Her husband had died in the early 70s and left her a huge fortune and his company, Francis Industries. Mrs. Francis traveled extensively after her husband passed. She saw the world from Antarctica to the North Pole and everywhere in between. If Concorde could get her there, that's how she went. A super lady. She had an enire room in her modest house decorated with Concorde memorabilia and it wasn't uncommon to have coffee with her and be served on a Concorde place setting. After Concorde left us, she stopped traveling. She told me the reason was that it wasn't fun anymore.
I once asked her how many times she'd traveled Concorde, she said it had to be many dozens but she couldn't remember. How cool is that?

Thanks for sharing Marc. I had to bookmark this thread to enjoy it fully. It's almost sad to see some of these noble warriors in such a state of disrepair.
