Houston
I have been coming down to Houston
on business for the last 18 months or so. Filled with great restaurants, mainly polite Friendly people, and the weather(today about 70 degrees Fahrenheit, sure beats home in Pennsy which st the moment is in the high 20's). Great restaurants, antique shops, malls..... But too much traffic and malls like the rest of The U.S. these days....overall? I give Houston very high marks! Best, Dan |

The zoo is tops. The butterfly's at the museum is worth it. But it's a major major new city with malls and shopping. The galleria is cool but once was enough for me. Like the rice university area for more laid back hanging out (shopping lol) montrose area is cool too.

Guess its gotten a bad rap somehow for so many years... For all around live ability (schools, cost of living, weather, people) there's no place I would rather be. I visited Houston last month for the first time ever... I liked it. Much more eclectic than Dallas.

Houston is so massive that it encompasses incorporated towns within its city limits.
The last time I was in Houston, I flew there to make a delivery to someone who met me at the airport. While waiting for the return flight, I walked outside to smoke a cigar and and did an immediate to-the-rear-march, went back inside and waited in the air conditioning. I spent some time on the north side in the late eighties and I must say that I did enjoy my time there, but it's far too congested for my tastes, regardless of the weather.

I lived in Houston for a year around 1999-2000. Definitely preferred Austin. The running joke then was "What do people do for fun in Houston ? "... Answer: "Drive to Austin" :-)
Looks like things have improved. |

Really enjoy Texas. Great restaurants, bars etc in most of the major cities. My only complaint it that it is way way too hot for me in the summer!

My wife did not care for Austin much....if you are young it would be OK but being senior citizens
we did not see that much except for lake Travis. We liked San Antonio much better ....my wife says she would love to move there one day It has more of the Mexican culture that she likes to live around....being form Mexico Plus EVERYBODY speaks Spanish there. I would love to live over the River Walk so much to see and eat around S.A We are going to go back there next month for a week... |

Glad you enjoyed your time in Texas! Houston is a great city, but gets incredibly hot. Excellent restaurants everywhere. The people are very friendly; glad you got to see for yourself that we aren't our stereotype.
Next time you're in Houston, make the drive to Galveston, or south to Rockport/Port Aransas/Corpus area. Beautiful waterfront communities with great outdoors stuff, eating, etc. Also enjoy the bars in Texas. It seems we like to drink. |

I love Cajun food....and have the fat to
prove it! We eat at Pappadeaux's once a week.... the bread pudding is a food group itself! anybody know of any other Cajun places to eat in Houston? |
