There's a big following for the sub on here, I've a 14060M myself, but it's not representative of the big wide world.

The sub date is one of Rolex's most popular models and will be way more popular than the sub.

Why? Who cares about the other 99%? I'd rather be the 1%!

Vintage ad

Seabreeze,
I got the ad off ebay but I'm not sure what magazine it's from. If you do an ebay search for vintage rolex ad you come up with 3 to 4 pages of them. They are fairy inexpensive, that one I got was in pristine condition (I'm going to frame it someday) for less than $10.00

Yes, the two liner describes the number of written lines above the six o'clock. On a two liner it only states "Submariner 1000ft=300m." The prices can be found here on TRF via private sells. I picked one up off of Bob's Watches about two weeks ago (they always have two liners anytime I check) for 4300. If you know what your looking for on eBay I've seen them as low as 3500 (however, if you chose that route, as with any watch purchase on the grey market, buy the seller then the watch).

I never get sick of checking the time. Just this no date for now, but someday I'll add a Red Sub to the mix.

Ok so help me out here, if I weer to pursue a No Date, with 2 lines, but wanted some of the modern features like the ceramic...what would be the year/models to look for?

In a dumb way I guess I am asking how new can I go for an old watch.......just when i thought I had a handle on all this, my head is dizzy after reading "what I dont like about the new....."

Unfortunately you cannot get a two liner with ceramic bezel. If you can, go to an AD and try on one of the new subs. You cannot interchange parts.

A "Z" serial number is the newest 2 liner you can buy in the Sub line.

If you use the date function, date.
If you DON'T use the date function, non-date.

Try them both on and go with your heart.
Don't take notice of what other people think or wear.
Buy it for you!

I rarely look at the date on any of my Roli's but the 1 Cosmo does not have the date and it seems like I am always looking for it.

So, for me, all have to have the date. Even though it's getting harder to read it.

Follow your bliss on this one. Of course the cyclops is a Rolex identifier to that hot girl at the club that would otherwise be out of your league, lol.

I've always been a date guy but recently have been thinking about the 114060. I have a 16610 that will be going to my son for college graduation and I'm thinking if I replace it perhaps get the ceramic sans date. All of my watches will go to him anyway so this way he'd have one of each rather than two versions of the same watch. The problem is I do use the date feature and this would be my daily driver. I suppose I always have my phone to tell me the date, and the ND is real clean looking. Oh well, it's a luxury problem so I won't agonize over the decision.

While the SubND is less expensive, it's appeal in the used market is not quite as wide so if you are a flipper keep that in mind. That is not an issue for me.

Of course, this works fine as long as a) you remember to set the date every morning and b) you either remember that you remembered or remember that you forgot. And one word of caution, this technique is for advanced users only. If not having the pearl at 12 o'clock will drive you crazy, do not attempt this without supervision.

So while it doesn't make the date window obsolete it can be useful if you don't have one.

Get the date version. My first was a 14060 and a few years later, I bought the 16610.

While this is a nice idea and a good way to save some money its the thin end of the wedge. What's next - using your cell phone instead to tell time? This will be the end of all civilisation, Sir Humphey!

I like them both but bought mine new in 1993 with the date, now thinking of picking one up without the date and keep both.

You shouldn't care what 99% of the world likes. You're not buying it for them.

I gotta go with the no-date. To me, the clean look is more luxurious (though I don't view watches with a Cyclops as not luxurious).

I have to agree. If the OP is considering the Sub Date C, he could potentially get two SS Subs for a small increase in price and have both. The Rolex gods would do nothing but smile at this gesture.
