Airport security question.

Hi everyone -

Just a quick question. Has anyone taken a spring bar tool through airport security? Any hitches? I would like to take my Bergeon 6767 along on a trip, but am only taking carry-on luggage.

Thanks

OP: Even though it appears that you're ok with the Bergeon tool, I think the TSA agent has ultimate discretion on what he/she allows through. I'd be careful as I'd hate to have it confiscated. It might be a good move to print out the info of allowed items so you could "plead your case" if necessary.

If you're leaving the country you might want to check regulations form where you be departing. Couple of years ago a foreign security agent tried to take my lighter, although I think it was more of a theft than regulation. After an argument I took the "guts" out and kept the jacket. Thank goodness I took a Zippo and not a Dunhill.

Last time I flew back from Melbourne I had a small pair of scissors in my hand luggage. They were about 3 inches long. I had to have them disposed of by the airline. Seems they were a dangerous weapon. I could do more damage with a plastic fork.
Your list seems reasonable by comparison.

It will be considered a dangerous item and confiscated.

I wouldn't bring it, unless you are ready to have it taken away.

Ship it, buy one there or leave it in the checked luggage.

I wouldn't bother trying to walk through security with it, not worth it IMO

Thanks so much for all of the comments everyone. It is a short trip, so I am not going to check luggage, and also dont want to pay a bunch of money for express shipping yo Europe (from Canada). I will be sure to make use of those methods in the future though.

Even if I am technically allowed to have it (which seems to be the case based on those TSA links) I don't really want any arguments, or possible confiscation.

If I do build up the courage to bring it, I'll let you all know how it went. Thanks again for the input!

i'm sure a regular $1 spring bar tool would do you just as well, why not bring one of those instead of an expensive bergeon?

Put it in a checked bag. No worries.

it is really a random process going through TSA... no matter what the letter of the law states on the up to the minute guidelines, you are dealing with people with infinite experiences and perceptions.... random intelligence and ignorance is to be expected.

i have been allowed through with a multi tool for my bicycle but i was cautioned that the next flight may not take it, it was a bicycle trip... they let it through.

recently i came home with a corkscrew that i had forgotten, it passed through no problem.

i Only, as a strict rule, take carry-on luggage.

there was recent news, this week, talking about lifting some restrictions.

Use a paperclip, but don't take it on the plane.
