The Tudor line is made by Rolex, and is considered a less expensive, though very excellent, watch. Many of the members here on TRF own Tudor watches. They are an excellent value!

Agree! Perhaps the Tudor range is the "training ground" for future Rolex watchmakers and technicians?? Perhaps that's where they cut their teeth and graduate to the real work..maybe that's why Rolex doesn't discontinue the line (cos its not an issue of $$$ for Rolex!)

And why The Tudor line prior to around 1990 was all Rolex except for movement. The only difference a top range Chronometer grade ETA a first class all in-house built movement. And the Tudor line has quite a heritage with Hans Wilsdorf the founder of Rolex. And quite a few vintage Tudor watches now command higher prices than there Rolex brothers. The Tudor line were made in the same now highly automated factory as Rolex. While now would agree the Aeronaut,Hydronaut range are not quite as good as the Oyster cased ones.Tudor are still a very important part of the Rolex history, and lets remember that some of the most now highly priced vintage Rolex watches are not powered by Rolex in-house movements. But with movements from ETA and Zenith, and nearly all Rolex watches had escapements and hairsprings made by Nivarox part of the now ETA GROUP.And quite a few countries chose the Tudor range for military use instead of its Rolex brother. The Tudor range IMHO are rightfully part of the Rolex line up and history in watches

I consider Tudor to be Rolexes cousin or maybe little brother.

Anyway, up until the early 1990ies, Tudor watches had Rolex cases and even the Rolex crown with the Rolex coronet on it. Casebacks were also Rolex marked.

It is a fine watch that was designed, built, and serviced by Rolex just like my MINI Cooper was designed and built by BMW.

My Tudor watch has a movement made by ETA, but the Daytona of the same time period had a movement made by Zenith. It has the exact same amount of "genuine Rolex content" as a Daytona of the same time period.

Vintage unmolested Tudors are starting to gain in value, and rightly so!

Look, most great companies out there (Waterford Crystal comes to mind) makes a product that has high quality, but is less expensive and is targeted for those who can't afford the top-of-the-line items. Waterford makes fine lead crystal items that are less expensive than the full-blown (pardon the pun) high-end crystal products, and sells them in Waterford retail stores in malls.

To the untrained eye, they LOOK as good as the high-end items. Collectors and those with a taste for the highest quality items can tell the difference. Those who can't are very happy to have the other products.

Completely agree.

Especially the Tudor Submariners from the 1960's with the rose logo. Their resale value is SKYROCKETING!!

I kind of considered Tudor as branch of Rolex, because Tudor are watches that are produced by Rolex watchmakers. They share names such as "Datejust," "Submariner," and "Oyster."

Recently however, Tudor designs have become more unique by having more of their own style and do not resemble the Rolex styles as much as they used to in the past.

Here's an example of one of the Tudor models currently in production, the Aeronaut:

Is a Lexus a Toyota? I guess it depends on which one you own. If you own the Toyota, then the answer is yes. If you own the Lexus, then it's no.

If you work on them, like I do, the answer is YES!!! Lexus=Toyota, infra structure wise and guts wise ....parts are the same and interchangable ... infact the $10K you are paying extra for Lexus is for the interior ....

I like their watches. They're kind of sleek and modern looking.

I think Rolex can test new changes to case designs in their Tudor lines, to avoid an overabundance of transitional models.

Also, I expect that their manufacturing capabilities exceed their capacity to properly finish and certify their Rolex watches, so they can utilize the full capabilities of their manufacturing, and devote less technician attention to the non-chronometer Tudors.

Also, a big at the date complication on the Tudor chronograph.

I have a Lexus and YES it's a TOYOTA. Take a look under the hood. I even have all the service done at a local Toyota Dealership. Even all the part numbers are the same. Why did I buy a Lexus instead of a Toyota then? If you can haggle the price of a new Lexus to almost the same as the equivalent Toyota model wouldn't you do it?

Many vintage Tudors are Rolex on the outside with non Rolex movements on the inside. My VW Passat is the opposite. VW on the outside and an Audi engine on the inside.

Are the movements Chronometer certified? None of them say so on the dial.

How accurate are the watches?

What is the best source for purchasing a Tudor here in the US? Also, are there fake Tudors out there? It would seem if that would be less of a problem.
