Electric shavers anyone?

Getting tired of always having to shave with razor blades.... the blades really don't get along with my skin.

Looking to buy an electric razor. been looking at Braun series 5, or the Phillips sensotouch 2D.

any suggestions?

for what it's worth, there are times where I don't shave for about 3 days, so I get some growth. would need a razor that could chop through that.

I'm not really looking for the "baby face" cut either.

I've heard foil cuts closer to a razor, but not too well with a couple day stubble.

rotary apparently cuts stubbles better, not as close though. and also you have to cut in circular motion.

I've used brauns before, and it worked I guess. never get my neck area too well. haven't really used a rotary... (I have a circular pattern on part of my neck. razor blades always cut me up around there)

I did buy a small travel braun yesterday, and it did an OK job. I will take that with me to the field.

I use the cheapest version of the Norelco SensoTouch, if you let it go for 3 days not many electrics are going to do a good job of weed-whacking. Electrics are really for daily use. JMHO

Don't give up on the blade. Most if not all skin irritation or nicking problems are the result of poor beard preparation. Do you use a pre shave? Good quality shave cream? Brush? Sharp blade? The lack of any of these can cause all kinds of discomfort.

I have been using an electric for 20+ years

I prefer the rotary Norelco rechargeable

Electrics are very easy on your skin which is why I shifted. But what I will say is that you should use it every day

If you go to long an electric will not be

But I found works well for me is to use the electric every day skip Saturday often times And then on Sunday I will shave with a blade

Once a week with a blade is perfect and the electric will keep up the maintenance during the week just fine

On Sundays I'm old-school. I have a very nice traditional ritual with a German Made razor, Beaver brush and soap Mug

Go for the Norelco. And as you say I think it's Phillips Norelco

I'll second the Panasonic, buy it on Amazon to save money. Used to use a Remington, but it died after 11 years so I guess I got my money's worth.

With the morning time crunch I'm on my first month with one of these Panasonic models. It's wet dry but haven't used it wet although I like the easy clean under water. It's been taking about 5 to 8 minutes but I can also walk around and do whatever I can with my other hand. I like the time saving and being clean shaven everyday even on casual days. It needs a charge every 4 to 5 days. It's a decent shave. Closer some days more so than others. The 5 o'clock shadow comes on much stronger than with a blade.

I have a 14,000rpm Panasonic - best electric shaver I've ever owned. Even does a great job at getting the hair on my neck. Better than my last Braun, and FAR better than any Norelco I've ever had too. I have the LA-93 model.

I use The Art of Shaving pre-shave oil as well as their cream and shaving brush. After shaving I touch up with a mini Panasonic electric razor I purchased from Neiman Marcus because I can never get a perfect shave with razor alone.

I used Braun for 15 years and then switched to the Panasonic LA-93 last year after I got upset with the lower quality Braun replacement parts put on the market after they were bought out. Blades and foils on the Braun used to last 9 months and then they started to dull after just 3. When that happened I would keep getting more and more ingrown hairs.

The Panasonic is very nice and gives a close shave. I rarely have any ingrown hairs now. However, I much prefer the ergonomic design of the Brauns. Also, I think the Brauns do a much better job of shaving the upper lip area.

I would recommend buying the highest level Braun there is and just get used to a higher frequency of blade/foil replacement.

Braun works best for me but with any electric shaver takes a week or so for your face to get a custom to it. The panasonic pulled my hair and irritated my face. The braun I have used for over 10 years and love their shave and trimmer..

I shave in the shower. Been doing it since I started shaving. The hot water loosens the beard & opens up the pores, then apply about a quarters size of shaving gel & rub on to the face. Use a nice Gillette disposable razor for 5 shaves & then throw it out.

the cheap philips with the rotating blades work best for me. i broke mine on vacation with poor packing. bought the more expensive panasonic with the straighter blades... and that one just doesn't work for me. either way, you need to use it every day for it to work properly, and it takes a few days for your face to get used to it.

I have been using the Norelco line of rotary shavers for more years than I care to think about. It is the only one I will probably ever use. I have tried Braun and it just did not work for me. Good luck!

I have a Norelco, Braun and when I absolutely have to have the closest shave possible, I'll use a blade. Electrics are for convenience and when I'm on the run with little to no time for a wet shave.

Had a Braun in my teens but switched to blades, tried a Philips several years ago on a whim & regretted it immediately, suffered pretty bad burn & rash but then I guess it's a case of getting used to it. Stuck with DE blades, far closer & an array of great creams to use..

These two newest models seem to be the best at the moment so far with 5 blades (Yes 5 blades not 4) and 14,000 rpm (14k not 13k rpm). One comes with an auto cleaning reservoir (LV81) and one without (LV61). The reservoir seems fairly redundant. Both models are pretty pricey for electric shavers.

I bought a Norelco (3 head) last year in FL and it works fine
But someone told me that the Wahl shavers should be the best

I have a Wahl trimmer and it is indestructible. I've never used one of their shavers, but the build quality on the trimmer is solid.

I have taken the opposite approach.

I have moved from shaver back to razor, and I am looking for a good straight edge. Wife got me a brush setup for Xmas. I am now ready to go all out and go to a straight blade hand held for the full on old school shave.

I have been shaving with an electric razor for 34 years now. I started with a Norelco for 5 years or so. I switched to Braun and have had them for 25+ years. I received a Remington as a gift and have been using it lately. The Braun is very good, but when the screens start to go they are expensive to replace (for what they are). So far, the Remington works great if my beard is no more than 2 days old. Once it gets longer the Remington won't pick up the hairs well. If I had to pick one maker it would be Braun. Good luck! Tim
